Hi everyone, Im new here. I bought my first boat last summer with the money I saved from babysitting. I got really into wakeboarding about 2 years ago. I started to learn behind our family's patio boat but there was no wake to progress on. Occasionally I would be able to get to wakeboard behind my uncles old ski nautique but it wasnt as often as I would like. So I made it my goal to buy my own boat before I turned 19. And thats exactly what I did. After convincing my parents, and searching for a good boat in my price range I found the "almost" perfect one. I say almost because it needed some TLC and interior work. Which I didnt mind because I love a project. So last May I bought a 1988 Sea Ray Seville. It has the 3.0L mercruiser inboard/outboard engine.
When I first got it, started writing up my list of things to get done. My uncle, who knows alot about boats, helped me with what to look for when buying it. He advised me that the engine was good, no mechanical problems. Just mainly cosmetic interior stuff.
First thing I did was I ripped out the two lounge seats. The upholstery was all ripped and cracked and not even in tact in places. I purchased 2 new lounge seats from Overtons. Once I got the seats out, I bought some dark green indoor/outdoor carpet from Home Depot. Laid that down and put it in the side spots. Then I put in the new lounge seats. They say a little too tall so I cut down the bases about 4" and then mounted them.
Next came the long and hard part. Reupholstering all the front bow cushion, the jump seats, engine cover, and the flip up thing. My mom is really good at sewing and we have tackled other upholstering projects on my quads and stuff. We bought some marine white vinyl and dark green vinyl and made our new seats.
After we finished the inside, I wanted to get rid of the funky yellow decal that was on the side of the boat when I first got it. So I found a really neat Sea Ray decal on ebay. It looked like the graphics that you would find on an expensive wakeboard boat. But since I dont have that kind of money, I thought this was the best way.
Still got some more plans for it this summer. New cd player and other odds and ends.
Let me hear your thoughts and comments...thanks
