1988 390 dashboard panels

I am replacing the 8 dashboard panels that are cracked and faded.There are rubber grommets
in the mounting screw holes(some are missing),does anyone know what purpose these serve
or can i just remove all.Any info would be appreciated.

They are supposed to be there, they help with not over tightening and cracking the panel.
