1988 340 EC transom mount transducer

Just bought a Garmin 300 fish finder on a close out for next to nothing and it came with a transom mount transducer. I thought about mounting it next to the drain plug, thinking the prop pockets would minimize turbulence. Most of our boating is in a fresh water river with no charts available. I don't want it for fishing and don't care about images at speed. I have a digital depth gauge that woks pretty well for general use. I Simply want a bottom contour at no-wake speed in shallow water operation. Any thoughts on how or if this will work?

If they offer one id go with a thru hull, they just epoxy on the inside, no drilling,no holes

I mounted mine on a piece of nylon that is screwed and sealed with 5200 to the transom. This way you can mount stuff to this anytime you want and not be screwing up your transom.

Also, make sure to run your cable into the boat ABOVE the waterline. It may not be pretty, but it will most certainly save your transom.

I know the transom of our boats well. I am not sure how you plan to mount this to be flush with the running surface. Around where the drain plug is there is not much room. Also I would not want screws into my bilge pump box as this is where you have this going. I agree with skilz that a different transducer is a great idea.

It's my understanding that the return signal to the tranducer can be interfered with by the prop wash, giving incorrect readings - it is best to transom mount an external transducer as far from the props as practical and still be in the water at all times.

A good location with transom mount transducers is right above one of the lift strakes (ridges running the length of the hull). You usually have enough horizontal surface get a clean flow of water at those locations.
