real happy with the boat/ having proplems with port shaft alighnment-first i needed a new shaft then a new bearing-a new transmission seal and recently told it needs a new strut- anyone with similar experiences/ideas or any interesting thoughts about this particular boat

I would have a mechanic re-align the whole thing from the engine to the strut. The engine mounts might be bad, the strut could be moved from a grounding.. Your boat yard can use a laser to get the whole thing aligned properly and they can check the whole system for other problems. From everything you have talked about something is amiss somewhere.

same problem, same boat

I have an 88 dancer that had the same issues. I needed to have the port vdrive rebuilt, and while it was out the mechanics had the shaft and coupling plate balanced and straightened. Then they re-installed the vdrive and carefully aligned both engine/shaft/strut assemblies. Worked wonders, the boat never ran so smooth before that work was done.
