Aloha~

I bought a 1987 Sea Ray 270 with twin Mercrusier 205's and twin Alpha One out drives.
I am in need of replacing both engines and both outdrives. How do I find out if one of the engines is counter rotating or if one of the outdrives is counter rotating?

My 84 was not counter rotating...if the props spin the same way, they too are not counter rotating. My 92 had counter rotating outdrives...both engines spun the same way. You can check this by turning over the engine and making sure they both turn the same direction.

Thanks. Both engines are siezed so unfortunately I cannot tell. Is there any way to tell by the engine serial numbers or drive serial numbers?

Are the props on? If so, if they are both the same, they are not counter rotating. Maybe someone with this same engine package will offer an opinion.

If the motors are out or accessable, take the timing covers off. The standard rotation motor will have a timing chain and the cam with turn the same direction as the crankshaft. The counter rotation motor will have a gear to gear set up, making the cam turn the opposite direction from the crankshaft. That said, if the props are on it still that's a much easier way to tell.
