I have a 1987 300DA. I have a/c in the main cabin but no vent in the aft cabin. I have a vent in the fwd bed area and also the square on the port side by the cabin door. My a/c is mounted under the fwd bed. I see there are different setups with the same boats. I guess since I have central vac this is why mine is mounted there. Can you tell me if you have any a/c vent in the aft? Sure can get muggy in there. Thanks!

Yes on my '89 I have the one in the v-berth, one by the steps and one in the aft cabin on the bulkhead by the steps. I want to add one to the head. BTW my AC is under the aft dinette bench.

Where is it in the aft cabin? Can you send me a pic? I need to add that in mine. Thanks.

Mine only has the two vents (next to steps, and in V berth), and the unit is mounted under the aft most dinette cushion (no central vac).
Do you have a toggle switch right next to the vent alongside the steps? I have one, and could never figure out what it controls.

No, I don't have that toggle. Is it a factory installed switch?

I have a 1988 300 Sundancer. It has a 17000 BTU unit under the dinette, and has vents in the aft cabin, v-berth and main cabin. I think they put it under the dinette because I have a central vac. and a Raritin Ice maker mounted under the v-berth. This boat is new to me this year, Does anyone know if it needs to be primed before use? Dont want to smoke the pump. Thanx

You make just have to bleed the air out to prime the pump. If the a/c does not get water it will go off and on.. Where is the vent in the aft cabin located? I want to add this to my boat...

It looks to be factory installed. It has a green indicator light next to it that goes on when you flip the switch. This is my fourth season with the boat, and I can't figure out what, if anything, it controls.

My 87 has it mounted in the same place, and I don't have central vac or ice maker.
Sometimes the AC will prime itself if you go for a ride.
If not, you can prime it easily enough.
Two ways I've done it:
1. Remove the hose from the discharge side of the pump, wait until water comes out of the pump, and put the hose back on. Test the AC before tightening the clamp.
if that doesn't work:
2. Enlist an assistant to stand by the AC controls.
Remove hose from discharge side of strainer.
Shoot water from garden hose in to the loose end of the hose you removed from strainer, in to the intake side of the pump.
Tell assistant to turn AC on and look over the side to make sure that water is being discharged (should be port side of hull up closer to the bow).
When assistant tells you there is water flowing.
Very quickly shove the hose back on to the strainer (which should have water flowing out of it).
Make sure water keeps flowing before you tighten clamp.
You might have to do it a few times to get the hang of it and get it going.

Sounds a lot more complicated than it really is

My AC is under the rear dinett seat, original from factory as is the Central Vac. The manual says that when you get the Vac they put the ac under the dinett and the vac system under the front birth. I have a vent in the aft cabin just to the right when you poke your head through the door opening, it is about 1/2" above the cushion and is the same size as the outlet in the forward birth.
The location of the ice maker is interesting, I want to install one this summer but I was thinking I would put one in the spot where the pull out cooler is.

My AC is self priming, when you turn the AC to start it turns the water pump on, you can see the discharge out the port side, I have never had to prime it.

I guess that they changed their minds yr to yr. Do you know anywhere that I can get that vent for the aft cabin to tap in the a/c? Do you know the route that ran that duct? I would think under the stairs and in?

I talked to an AC guy at the Baltimore boat show in Feb. and he said all you need to do to add a duct is to buy the outlet box and grill and attach a (I'll call it a splitter since I don't remember the correct term) a splitter to the discharge of the AC unit. Ducting and such can be had from marine AC shops, or so I'm told. I want to add a vent to the head as it gets warm in there in summer and cold in fall. I just have to figure out how to route the hose to the head.

As far as the aft cabin is concerned, the hose goes thru the area in front of the in floor storage compartment (the one in the cockpit before the stairs). The outlet is just above the cushions on the right side looking into the aft cabin entrance.

Thats where I figured I would run it. Do you have the fresh water tank in that compartment?

Yes, thats where the fresh water tank is on my boat, but there is some room in front of the tank where the duct can be run.
