1986 340DA shaft seals leak. Have repacked and tightened till dry. They leak again after running, but start to dry up while idle. Have been told that dripless seals will not fit with the V-drives. Props and shafts are true. Any ideas/similar problems?

packing is suppose to drip, shaft seals should work with your boat with no problem, have installed many of them. they are expensive but it is worth it to me to have a dry bilge.

I would be happy with drips. After running, the water pours in. The bilge pump cycles every 30 seconds. What brand of dripless seals will fit in the seven inches of space offered by the V-drives?

dont bother with dripless. :smt018 buy a pack of this stuff for each stuffing box and your problems will be over. it is a phenomenal product. you pack it and forget it. and that's precisely what you want to do with v-drives.

i put this stuff in my port stuffing box last spring before launch and i got nary a drip all season. they run cool, are non abrasive, dont leak and dont require any maintainance. and this stuffing box was a real pain. they repacked it with that wax rope crap after it leaked like a seive on the seatrial, only to start leaking again mid season. i bought a second pack and will do the starboard before launch this spring.
