Copy of Searay 22008 2 002.jpg Hi All I just bought my first cabin cruiser a 1985 weekender. The boat had really been taken care of and is in great shape. The only thing I don’t like is the stringer out drive; I wish it had a later drive. The drive is in great shape though.
I am reading all the posts to learn as much as possible. Thanks for all the info.
Here is a pic of the boat Thanks George

Nice boat. Looks good. I've been more partial to the classics. My Boat is in the middle of a repower and am replacing the engine and drive with the original equipment. It came orig with the OMC and I got it without the engine and drive. I am replacing it with the Stringer Electric shift. Some think I'm nuts but the proper way to do a modern conversion exceeds my ability. The hole where the boot needs to be filled in or the better way is to replace the transom. My father had a 86 Arrow Glass BR for many years and had no trouble with his OMC. In my opinion the OMC, Merc argument is like the Ford/Chevy Debate. OMC is out of buisness but parts are still available.
Nonetheless I have found this forum very informative and helpfull. I'm sure you will too.

Is that a 230? I used to have one, it was also my first cruiser and we loved it. Got us hooked on cruising! About the drive - I wouldn't worry about it until it breaks, then go alpha or bravo. I think the ford/chevy style debate with outdrives is volvo/mercruiser. Although I have never had them, I have heard lots of bad about the omc. But if it ain't broke.....

Who put the spotlight there on your bow?

That is the way it was when I bought it. I think Kenny's Marine in Denver installed it. Yes it is a 230. George
