This is my third year with this boat. I just completed having the forward hatch hinge heli-arced and reinstalled, had to completely build a new rope locker hatch and finally rebuilt the bow pulpit. The last two were teak of course and oh, did I mention that there is now a trade embargo against Burma and that teak will be unavailable once current stocks are gone.

I just bought an 81 SRV 260 and I too need to rebuild the anchor locker door. I thought about using the old piece as a template and see if I can get a glass company to make a smoked plexi-glass door or just go with another teak one. Any advice based on your rebuild?

Also, boat is in great shape but teak finish is peaking and I plan on refinishing. Any tips?

Dont have much of a tip but one. I have rails on one of my boats. To save time I ran them through a thickness planer. shaved off less than 1/32 ". It beat the heck out of sanding them and the 22year old boards looked like new in five minutes.
If not you, maybe you could track a friend down with a planer.

Coral reefer and Old Navy,

Beautiful boats!! I love those old 26's. My dad has an '81, I have an '83, and two very close friends have an '82, and '84. My dad and I remade our hatches out of plank teak.

That's what I plan on doing. Another member gave me some good links to some marine lumber co's. I should be able to get a good template off the old door to make a new one. I'll post some pics when I complete. Thanks!

Except for the cost, I really like the teak. I used a 1in (4-4ths actually) x 6in and cut three pieces then doweled and glued them together with TiteBond Type III waterproof glue. I used the old hatch to get all the dimentions and the angle on the hinge end. I cut the rope pipe opening with a jig saw and used a router and a 3/4" bit to route out the gasket groove. I'm still looking for another gasket; I actually got the old one out in good condition but had glued it into a hatch made of plywood and couldn't remove it from that hatch. I use Teak Oil on every thing teak. If it's been exposed a lot I sand it first, then oil it. From what I have read it should be done about twice a year but will vary with use and conditions, I am sure.
