I know this is an old post, but curious to hear about your experience with the boat. I have the same boat with the 260 engine. Mine cruises @ 3000 rpm/21mph. Top speed is 32. Fuel consumption at cruise is close to 2mpg.

I have a 1980 Sundowner SRV 225 it has the Mercruiser 260 and a hardtop. I have found that top speed is about 42 mph not sure of fuel consumption is.
She goes in her slip on the Saginaw Bay of lake Huron 1st of June 2016. All of the teak is refinished from front to back. Mine has the 305/5.0L so I expect a little better gas mileage but slower top end. I will keep you posted on how she does with only 600 original hours I expect it will be fine. Would you possibly know what size and pitch prop you run on your boat?.
