The fish finder on my boat is original equipment and I would like to replace it with a more modern version. However, I would like to not drill any more holes in the Hull and I'm looking at using an "in Hull" versus "thru Hull" transducer. The problem is, according to the manufacturers, an in Hull transducer is not appropriate unless the hull is solid fiberglass. Can anyone tell me if the hull on my boat is solid fiberglass or has a core in it.

Do you know what fishfinder you will be using? I have both thru hull and in hull transducers in my 1986 390ec. The hull bottom is solid about 3/4" thick. My in hull is a Garmin P79 connected to a Garmin 546s. My thru hull is a BV744V connected to a Garmin GSD24 module which is connected my Garmin 4212. The difference in performance is night and day. The 546s is for back up only but works ok.

Haven't decided which one - recommendations?
