Not sure what you mean. Are you asking about coring or type of material?
The 80's boats up to at least the 340 maybe larger, had solid fiberglass hulls, no core and the topsides were also solid. The decks and fore decks are cored with end grain balsa. The glass was hand laid and chopper gun depending on where in the hull and what boat. My 300 is solid and looks to be hand laid all the way to the bilge layer. Many times the last coat was a chopper gun coating.
The hulls have marine plywood cored stringers and tramsoms. The resin was polyester.

Thanks a lot, I have been trying to find out if I have a solid FG hull, glad to hear that I do. I guess I need to do some poking and tapping. Have you any other investigation recommendations?

How far forward do the stringers go on these big boats? Mine are rotted in the engine bay and I haven't torn into it to see how far the rot goes. Rot in everything around the gas tank due to wet foam.

Try this website for great advice on wood stringer rot treatment: "www.rotdoctor.com".
I currently have a 1977 WE240 with the same problems.
The engine in the WE240 (351 Ford-OMC) sits on its own wood/fiberglass pads that do not
connect to the deck support stringers. I imagine the same is true for your boat.

I will post some pictures soon for the thread I started today.
There is a YouTube series posted by Friscoboater that has some great videos of
extreme repairs done to a Sea Ray with rotted out stringers and decks.
That amount effort is not my cup of tea. I hope I don't wind up getting sucked into
a major gut job.
If it looks like that is what may wind up being, then Mr. Boat meet Mr. Chainsaw!
