1978 sr187, stalls when put in gear when hot or warm, breaks up at full throtle

I just bought this boat and took it for the first drive, starts up great, but breaks up at full speed, not 3/4 throttle, and stalls when going into gear.

You'll have to provide more info, like engine information, RPMs, etc.
We have no idea what you have so it will be hard to help.

I am not sure of the rpm, perhaps 1000, engine does not stall if not in gear and runs smooth, could I need new points or rotor or condensor, also is a coil either good or bad, do they get weaker or does it just fail.

sounds like the the shift interrupt switch is bad.

Did you read the link? It temporarily cuts ignition to help you get in and out of gear.
