What is the difference between a Weekender and an Expresss?

Thw weekender has a single level cockpit and a smaller cabin because there is no mid berth. The Sundancer has a mid-berth and a step-up in the cockpit, so it sleeps more but the cockpit is a little more obstructed.

In the 70s the express had a bit of a raised deck, giving you more head room in the cabin . The cockpit on the weekender has a little more room.If you go to the sea ray web sight you can find all the specs. for the classic sea rays.

He was asking about the express not the sundancer. The difference has carried over to today's modern layouts. Expresses did not have the aft sleeping cabin just as today. As was pointed out, the deck was raised on the express to make it more of a "cruising boat" with significantly more head room. There was also a sundancer with the step up cockpit you mentioned. It also had the raised foredeck.

I'm not as sure about more headroom. My 1980 260 Weekender has almost 6 ft of headroom in the cabin. I think the rear cabin wall may be back further on the Express, giving a larger cabin and smaller cockpit. They didn't make both models in all years, and you have to compare in the same year. Not much difference though.

I believe the Express has about 6'3" of head room. It's been quite a while since I've been in one, but I was able to stand up although my head did hit. Head is decent sized for a 26 foot boat. It's bigger than some of the current models.
