OK guys got a few questions
The old engine runs really smooth if you put good gas in it. One what the max rpm I should run? it will turn about 3500 now wide open but starts getting warm at 2200 rpms I'm thinking water pump worn. Also she's pretty slow might do a little over 20 mph wide open the prop got a few small gouges its an omc 235 with a 351 w

Thanks for the response the last time I took her out I got her up to about 23 mph by speedometer at 4000 rpm the temp went from 160 to 210 on gauge and came right back to 160 when I slowed down will do the tests you suggest this weekend all the gauges and sending unit are original I think the water pump has been replaced at some point it is black where rest of engine has original paint

if your going by the speedo on the dash those arent very accurate. there is just a tube that hangs off the back of the boat they get stuff in them and become off by a few mph. you t-stat might be getting stuck and openiong up a little late.

Based on the prop chart published by Sea Ray for 1976, a 240 HT with the 235 OMC should be using a 14 x 13 SST prop with a MAX RPM of 4600.

OK guys she's running great now first I adjusted carb linkage to allow it to open more second I changed the prop and my heating problems went away the water pickup is right above the prop on OMC and the old one was churning up so much air it was causing the pump to lose flow I took her out the most rpm I could get was 4300 but I was running 33 mph according to my speedometer app and 30 on gauge and will plane out at about 3300 rpm
