'77 SRV 24' cuddy cabin

350 mercruiser
Dad and I have decided to restore his '77 SRV 24 cuddy cabin. He purchased it new the year I was born. We have only put 650 hrs. on it, primarily in freshwater, but was used some in the gulf the first 10 years of its life. The block has had a temp. problem for over 10 years. Nobody can figure out the problem. We want to use the boat primarily in saltwater and want peace of mind, so we have decided to repower. Looking for a direction on what to use. It has a 350 Mercruser in it now. Thanks

Tons of info right here in this particular forum about repowering. I just had to repower, but I did all the labor and had my local machine shop do all the work. I got extrememly lucky in that I didn't have to have all kinds of work done. Got about $600 into the whole project (friend's shop, discounts, favors, etc.) and am gonna test fire the engine this week.

Whatever you do, I would insure that your exhaust shutters are functioning, and you check your exhaust manifolds and risers... Probly time for new ones anyway.

Good luck and welcome to the forum!

Will do! Dad has done a good job over the years maintaining the woodwork and hatches. Its a fishing model with no carpet. Thinking of sticking a hard top on to go offshore. Engine and electrical will be most of the work. The rest will be tricking it out!:smt038

A friend of mine has a 1977 SRV Sundancer that he won't let die(his dad was the origanal owner). It's a little heavier than what you have I think. Through the years several engines were put in. A couple times he even had special beefed marine 350s built by some outfit in CA. The last time, about 5yrs ago he put a 454 in it and updated the drive with a B3. He says he should have done that long ago. His opinion was that with the steeper deadrise and weight it was underpowered with the 350. The boats performance is much improved in all ways and especially noticable in heavy seas now.

Hi Chooper77, I have the same boat but my is a 1981 SRV 24 Weekender. I love this boat..I just converted my exhaust system from the old log style to the New Center Rise tuned exhaust system...It took a little work to change over but well worth the effort. Boat runs great with no temp problems what so ever. Tim

Woody, I saw your post and wonder if you could explain to me what that 454 and B3 are? I have an 1974 240 SRV that I am considering repowering from its original OMC stringer with a 225 hp Chevy. Thanks very much, John

454 is a big block chevy mercruiser engine and B3 is a Bravo3 outdrive
