Hey Gang, IM BACK !
I have recently acquired this beautiful 1976 Sea Ray SRV 195 and I decided to do what any crazy person would do ..Restore It !!!

She has literally sat in a boat grave yard since 2005, luckily I can not find any soft spots in the decking (I literally Jumped around on every inch of this boat) and the Transom seems good as well. So I thought I would start with the motor

I drained the nasty grey ( looks like I might have bigger issues here) thick oil out and with the help of Metal Rescue, and Marvel Mystery Oil I was finally able to get the motor to move ...just a bit. So I decided to go ahead a dive head first..(ok technically intake first) And Removed the Intake.

Found 2 surprises first one was that it was a 351 W not a 302 like I was told can you guess the other surprise ?

Got the heads off and found good looking cylinder walls and no rust !!! But I did find a bad Valve sorry no pics but looks like I might able to get away with a Valve job, new main & rod bearings, and some rings and this thing might just run !

Looks like you got yourself a project. Good Luck with her and keep us posted with the pic's. Love the pic's.

Welcome back, an' thanx for the pics to look at and learn from. Where'd ya find such an excellent boat graveyard? What an awesome place to hang out for a weekend when the boat is in the shop.

Is the bad valve what bent the rod on Cyl #3?

Its a bent push rod but I also had so stuck valves on the other side. The graveyard is a place called Lanier liquidators up in dawsonville. They literally have 1000s of boats just dying for some TLC

No unfortnatly the bad valve is on the other head (but if im sending one head to the machine shop why not both). Unsure of what exactly bent the pushrod, when I pull the motor ill know more ive kinda it taken down as much as I can in the boat. Gonna try to take the motor out and start taking the rest down this weekend if the weather will play nice !

Cool project! I'll second the notion about loving pics. I wish I could find a place like that around here. I need one new seat.

Wasn't able to get as much done as I wanted to this weekend but still got some accomplished. I Finally got tired of how nasty this thing was and gave the old girl a bath ! I then finished tearing down the motor so that it was free and clear to come out. Which also means I had to pull the outdrive. Got the Prop and Trim Rams off and after few more nuts ... Bam Out drive is off ! Now the motor is ready to be pulled ! But I wasn't finished just yet Pulled out all the old rotten seats ! Dumpster RUN !!! Now my spare bedroom is starting to get a little more cluttered lol

Next weekend we have the Pirates of Lanier Poker Run on Lake Lanier and ill be helping at one of the stops so I doubt I get to much accomplished. Hopefully Sunday I can start taking apart the bellows.

That seat base doesn't look half bad for a 37 year old boat, but I see it's in your dump run. What are ya planning on doing for seats?

The SRV's are great looking boats - Damn, I wish we had a boat yard around here like that.

Well this winter I'm actually gonna 2 captains chairs and a rear bench but if there's a chance of hitting the water this season I'll grab some seats from the junkyard to last this season

Did this take the place of the '85 Seville you were restoring? Sorry if you've already explained that in another thread. Still new to this site...

Yes the Seville is no longer with us I was working on it and had my foot go through the hull and hit the trailer and at that point it went to the scrap yard ....But its the same trailer though !

Looking good! Just picked up a SRV200 that Im going to fix up and keep on the water. Wish we had a junkyard like that around here. Junk boats pretty much end up in the dump.

Its got the closed bow on it unfortunately. I wanted one with a cuddy but couldnt find one around here (CO) and popped on this one when I found it. Hope to try her out on the water this weekend to find out what shape its really in.

Best of luck man ! Make sure to share some pics I love seeing these ole SRV's in the water

hahahahha! Then the spirit lives on! In trailer form.

So like I thought the Poker Run really put a halt to any progress but I made up for it this weekend got a lot done at least I think so lol.
First I got the Motor pulled

Then I started the tear down process I didn't get as much pictures as I wanted (got to involved in the motor )
But I had already pulled the Carb,Intake, and heads off previously so I got the lifters out which showed very little wear only roughly 3 had any rings on them at all . I flipped the block on the stand .

This thing has to have one of the prettiest crankshafts from a 76 Ive ever seen!
