Have a stupid question, extremely new to boats. on the right side of the steering wheen is the throttle lever. it has three positions, forward, neutral, and reverse. there is a small button next to it to lock the lever into each position. Is this the lever to put it into gear, or is there something else that needs to be done? Thank you

Please stick to one thread (really, the same subject), and add your boat information to your signature.

You will get more help that way.

Sorry Steve, new at this. Still trying to figure it out. Thanks for the info

Seems there were a few different throttles available out there. Typically, the button at the base is what you use to either throttle up in neutral or to go in gear. Push and hold the button in and move the throttle forward while holding the button throttles up in neutral. This is what you use to prime before starting the old carb system. Hold button in and "pump" the throttle forward a few times like in an old car. Then while button still in hold a bit forward in neutral to start. Pushing the throttle forward or reverse without holding the button is typically what puts you in gear (forward or reverse). Mercruisers make a grinding noise going in gear. You want to engage it rather quickly to minimize the time for it to go in to gear.

No, my bad. That's just my grumpy coming through when I should have been in bed. I could have been a little more polite, sorry.

I left a response on your other thread
