May apologies to all I am still learning how to navigate this site and if I interrupted any discussions it was only because I didn't figure out how to post a new thread until now. Anyways, I just purchased a 76 Sea Ray-it has a 351 winsor and a Mercruiser Alpha 1 I/O. The boat is in pretty decent shape-the motor is rebuilt and the hull is solid. Due to a heavy rain and a failed bilge pump, water seeped into the engine thru the dip stick tube. I have done several oil changes in an attempt to get all the water out. The only other thing with the motor is that it souds like one of the lifters needs adjusting. Anyways, I hooked up the bilge pump last night in the engine compartment to an auto/maual switch but I was wondering if anyone may know if there is a second bilge pump on the boat tin the front anywhere? Also, ANY advice would be greatly appreciated-where to start with getting her back on the water, also does anyone know where I could find a manual for this boat? Any tips on restoring? Thanks to all in advance!

Dang - that was DEEP! Hope that didn't ruin too many things.

Sea Ray just had a kind of generic manual for basic operation. You'll have to buy a manual that covers the motor and drive, like from Seloc (SP?) or Mercruiser, etc.

Welcome aboard by the way.

I completely restored our 1974 SRV220 last year. If you want to see some before and after pictures, check out my profile (Sturgeon Queen). It was quite the project, and something I had never attempted before, but the end result is awesome.

I restored my 76 SRV200. Pictures on profile. Mine was fairly easy to do. I had the entire interior out in one Saturday morning. Unscrew the panels and use them as templates for new. Then revinyled. I did not use any glue as I wanted to be able to change it out in a couple years to keep it fresh. Lots of plywood in the rear area as many peices were rotted. Completely new engine cover. I raised my seats 6 inches and opened up the cubby hole in front of the dash and cockpit. Also added the stereo system and I'm working on indirect lighting for night running. Adding underwater leds as soon as budget (wife) allows. Have fun with it. As long as you don't drill any holes through the haul it's pretty straight forward.

I don't know if the layout is the same, but on my 1977 240, the forward beilge pump is under the step going down into the cabin..

If you have to store your boat outside like I have to there is a plug down under the outdrive that you can take out so if it rains in your boat it drains out the hole where the plug was.

Everyone thank you sooo much for your replies. Here's an jupdtae and a reason as to why I have been MIA for the last week. Last Sunday I was working on the boat-I installeb a new elctric fuel pump (new wiring etc.) Put my bunny ears on, fired her up only to have my wife come screaming out of the house "babe! Babe!". I turned around and my entire engine compartment ws on fire. In the haste to jump out of the boat (as it was in my backyard), I broke my leg....fire dept...EMS....etc. I am an amputee already-I have a below knee amputation on my right leg and yes I managed to break my good and real leg. SO....yes I traded a perfectly good Ducati for this Sea Ray which now has fire damage-not too serious but yet more work. The thing is, I somehow love this boat and because of you guys and the love of making older things anew, I will be keeping it. Just need to heal from the fracture first (Surgery Tues!). Anyways guys....thanks for your infor and you are sure to be hearing again from me soon! BTW-anyone kniw where I can find a wiring harness for this boat? (76 Sea Ray overnighter). You guys are awesome thanks again!

Geez, what a way to start out!
Glad that is all that happened and hope that you heal up soon. Boating is good therapy, but usually only once it is in the water...
Any idea what happened?
Take care,

Man that's some luck. If I lived near you I'd be in your drive to help out. Glad to see your going to stay with it. Heal up and stay connected to CSR. Let us know how you're doing.
Calm seas and pleasent breezes mate.

All the wiring was completely rigged to say the least. I think either a wire overheated and caught? I am really not sure. I wish you guys were in town I would be so stoked to have nearby help! Anyways...she sits awaiting me to bring her back to life and thanks to you guys mostly. I will bring her back but need the leg to heal first! Thanks again everyone as you will be hearing from me again!
