Just got a 1976 Cuddy cabin. Nice condition except inside needs some TLC. I find no anodes on outside of hull. This seems wrong. Where should anodes be installes. I am a former steamboat owner and had anodes everywhere.

I just bought my first Sea Ray cuddy cabin, and yes my first boat. I traded an older Ducati motorcycle (probably worth around $4000) and she floats with no leaks, has a rebuilt 351 Windsor motor which has intermittent fuel pump issues (there is a manual fuel pump and an electronic one, and for whatever reason the manual is bypassed). Anyways, the motor runs strong, the Mecruiser seems to be funtioning well and she is docked currently near my house but I don't know crap about boats really...I guess I need some help on what else I need to be worried about.....please advise

Congrats on your new purchase of a SR. the 351 fuel pump may be bypassed for one of two reasons. Either the thing just quite pumping or it was leaking fuel into the crank case. This would cause the engine oil to become deluted. In any case I would try to get it replaced with a high performace manual fuel pump. Since marine engines operate at a different power curve than auto engines of the same cubic inch, make sure the parts you buy are specific to your marine engine. Things like distributor caps and wires may be interchangeable however there may be a difference in spark plugs, points, timing settings and the like. No big deal just call your local SR dealer instead of Advance or Auto zone when needing replacement part numbers. You still may be able to buy the parts from your local auto parts store once you have the part numbers.

Smooth sea.

Thank you so much. I pulled her out of the water today after a rainpour last night. Thank God I did as the motor sucked up some sea water but I caught it before running it too hard. SO I drainrd the oil, replaced the filter and put new oil in knowing darn well that I will need to run it for a bit, then drain it again to get all the water out. I used 40W because that is what I was told the 351 likes best. I also drained the oil in the outdrive and it was a bit milky and filled with water but that has all been replaced. I am not sure if the fuel pump was my problem. When in the water (before I took it out of the water), the engine runs great but as soon as the boat planes at full throttle, the engine dies. I am hoping that it is because of the dirty fuel filter(s) that I discovered today. Other than that the enf=gine seems solid. I will definitely check into getting a high performance mechanical fuel pump. One of the lifters needs adjustment because it is knocking pretty good. I am so lost, I don;t even know where to start with the boat. I found out today that the really good thing zi have going for me on this boat is the hull-it is solid. I think I will be able to do cosmetic stuff like upholstry and panels etc. If you ask me the whole thing needs to be rewired as only a few of the guages worked and everything else seems to be jerry rigged to say the least. Have you odne a full restoration on yours? Any pointers on where I can begin? I don't think I want to tear her down to nothing and rebuild but I want to make her nicer than she is but the whole point was to be out on the water and she doesn't seem too far away from that...I'm lost...what do you think?

OK here are the pics, for whatever reason they didn't upload before (sorry to overpost)

Back to the original topic:

Anodes depend on a number of things. Salt vs fresh water, trailered vs slipped. Whether you have shore power plugged in while floating etc.

Like ghuskin said, on a small fiberglass hull, usually the one on the outdrive is sufficient.

Sorry Matt, should have said SRV200CC 1978.Mine had a 305 cu. in. 228 hp chev. mtr. in it. The 79's were a lot sleeker looking I think. peeterbilt,I'm quite sure yours is a 20ft. cuddy cabin,I don't know what year they started to make that model thou. Very nice boats, had mine for four years and loved it.

indeed 26sxl they are great boats I found mine preparing to rot on it trailor or to be parted out. It had a reman 350 in it with just a little use from one summer and then someone decided they was gonna borrow the leg on a permanent basis. I got it and brought it back to a very nice boat with some buffing and polishing and it looks great I'm about to tint the windshield to 5% to give it a little more of a sleek look but we enjoy it and plan to keep it. As for anodes the two on the bottom of the transom assembly and the one on the lower unit are plenty sufficient unless the slip just has outrageous stray currents that eat up the anodes before the season is done and if thats the case I wouldn't keep my boat there anyway. They can reak havoc on a outdrive.

Matt, with the 260hp in yours you should run in the 50's at wot, nice.I liked my 20 alot but I had a 22 cuddy I really liked(1977). I pulled the 305 out of it and put a warmed up 350 in,brought that boat alive.Low 50's gps.I think the 22 was alot more user friendly and roomier.Did you put a full platform on the back or do you still have just the one on the port side?

I had it out last friday and got 46.8 out of it according to my GPS and it wasn't WOT although it was close I might get 50 out of it but its doubtful, I'm running a stainless 19 and the 350 in mine might have 30 hours at the most on it, It's pretty heavy according to the sea ray archives it weighs 3200 pounds, plus all my gear 2 batteries and cooler.I dont run it hard usually I was just trying it out after removing the motor and installing a new oil pump and pickup since the builder didn't care that the pickup tube would easily slide in and out of the oil pump. I usually just put around and throw a few back while my kids enjoy them selves and their time on the water.

Whats a good price for one of these boats in good condition? And does anybody know what the dead rise for a 1976 220?

I just bought a Sea Ray on Saturday.
I picked up a 1976 Sea Ray SRV200CC.
Paid $500 for it.

302 Ford, 188 HP, runs well.
Impeller was broken and Alternator does not work when I bought it.

I just took the lower unit off 2 days ago and took out the exploded impeller.
Yesterday I put a new one back in.
Today at lunch time I go and pick up my rebuilt Alternator.
And then later on tonight is my first water test.

She runs excellent and shifts into gear well.
But then again,...I have yet to float it.

Boat came with:
10 lifejackets, 2 throwables, Adult skis, kid skis, tube, 3 tow ropes, 2 anchors, an Eagle Fish Mark 320 Depth Finder, and Eagle GPS, a huge compass, porta-potty, and new'ish seats. No cracks or weathering to the seats. Teak wood needs to be re-teaked.

I can't wait to test drive her tonight!!

Sounds like a good deal. Hope the impellar failure didn't cause harm to the engine. If it runs fine then maybe you dodged the bullet. Welcome aboard and let us know how the maiden voyage goes!
