Can you please clarify some things? It's hard to understand what you're saying.

"catch something"?

"transom won't travel"?

"other end is something cruiser"?

It makes a grinding noise when u go to go forward or backwards the trim won’t go up or down when I try and adjust it and I’ll get some pics of transom

I can see the picture of your transom in your first post. But I have no idea what you mean about your transom comment. Also, what about that cruiser comment?

Grinding could be gears - either internal or a problem with the cables. There's no way to tell you what the issue is from where we are.

If the drive won't trim up, how did it get to the up position in your picture? But, trim/tilt is separate from the grinding. Does the t/t motor make any clicking sounds? Bypass the solenoids?

The trim won’t go down since that last time we used it it does make a buzz sound the cruiser comment was me trying to remember the name of the transom here is a pic of the name that is on it

Maybe means a Mercruiser drive unit at the transom is not trimming? Check the trim solenoid, fluid levels, etc.

i don’t know about the drive grinding. Do you know the last time it had regular and preventative maintenance done? If regular maintenance hasn’t been done, eventually that catches up to you. I would start with doing a gear lube drain, inspect color and magnet for shavings and refill. Might tell you something.

ok thank u I’ll work on it this week I’m a new boat owner I’ve been around them my whole life growing up but never been able to find one I could afford and actually like this one I found is just like the one my grandpa had before he got sick and past so I bout it took it out once then this happened so thinks for ur help both of u it means the world to me to get this boat back on the water

OK, I think I'm starting to understand - you're using the wrong terminology for some things. The transom is the aft-most stern of the boat - the vertical section - it has nothing to do with the outdrive or the engine.

See my comment above in regards to the t/t pump - solenoids are the most common issue. But, being as old as it is, it would be a good idea to check every single wire - making sure there are no broken strands and then clean/re-attach. Dirty and/or loose connections can cause all kinds of issues.

Best thing to do is try to get the service manual. That will show you the service intervals on consumable parts. And reading the service sections for those parts will give you a general idea if you think you can do it yourself or need to have it serviced.

I usually try servicing it once myself. If I do a poor job, or don’t think it’s in my skill level, lesson learned and have it done by a professional.

if the boat sat for any time or has an unknown service history, you need to do all the deferred maintenance before you start taking it out. Otherwise you risk damaging components, passengers or yourself. I know it’s exciting to have that beauty on a trailer so you can get on the water, but it will happen. Just let it happen safely.
