1973 18ft Searay;oxidation,wet sand or buff?

I am very new to this site,and so far I'm impressed with the feedback I've gotten.I was just wondering if anyone had any tips/tricks or experience bringing back a shine.My searay is 38 yrs old and i love it.I bought it for 1400,and I think I got a pretty good deal.It's equipped With Mercruiser 188 302 Ford,came with a 19 pitch quicksilver mirage stainless prop,and runs like new.But it's blue gelcoat on the sides of the hull have a layer of white film on it,pretty bad on the stern.Any advise?

Try a rotary buffer first with 3M Super duty compound. There are many many threads about polishing, wax and procedures, but I would compound well before going drastic with wetsanding. Be careful; because of the age you don't want to run through the blue being too aggressive.
