Hi,
Just picked up an mature 1971 srv 240 sea ray as a project boat ( a project it will be :) ) and was wondering if anyone has any websites, place to find DIY articles or actual pics of a refurbishing in process?
Thanks in Advance
Mike

This website is the only current site I've found that is Sea Ray specific. There was another good one but it shut down about a year or two ago...

There is actually a mag called DIY that is really good. It covers sail and power but is great for do it yourselfers. http://www.DIY-Boat.com

Any pictures?

Go to Bayliners Owners Forum and look in the completed project section. Look for (FORDM) Mikes Projects. Another eally good one is at webshots then search for bluegrass marine or vinnies truck. Great restore of 30 Weekender. One more is on you tube. Search boat restoration and searay and you will get a couple of 26 redos. Hope this helps. JC

Another good one for vintage fiberglass boats is fiberglassics.com. I am a member there and have restored three vintage boats. I may be able to answer some of your questions as well that arent specific to that particular boat. I have a 1976 SRV 190 myself....here it is now.

76SRV190 - did you restore that boat? We have the same but red with a 351. All the upholstery and carpet is out and ready for new after I get the gas tank back in. Do you have more pictures/details?
Thanks,

I have been restoring a 1974 240 SRV. She is a beautiful boat now. I have replaced the cabin headliner, all cushions, new 110 system, Kenyon stove, refrigerator, carpet, etc. Cockpit has all new vinyl, new cushions, new carpet; fuel tank hoses replaced. 225 HP Chevy purrs like a kitten, but concerned about future ability to service/repair the stringer system. A repower would cost a bundle, due to having to reglass the transom, new steering, controls, instruments, etc. Good luck.

Wow, she does good work. I'll bet she could stay busy doing that for a living.
I like the choice of dark blue above deck but is the cuddy dark with all that below?

Hey seacure any pics to share?
JC3 those pics of Mikey's Bayliner were incredible ! Thanks
Mike

I just obtained a 1977 SRB-240 sedan flybridge, and switched projects from a 70 IMP AZTEC, that uses the same power, OMC
Have lots of pics of engine rebuild, Transom repair, boot replacement,... I was ready for final assembly of the IMP when a conflict arose over title, and gave up on it.
I had a site up, impboatclub.com for last 2 years. Currently I am re building the site as www.boatrebuilding.com , (non brand specific) and will have a lot of OMC info to share, as well as Just starting a complete rebuild of the Sea Ray. Boat is a total mess, but I have 90% materials to do the build, and all the time in the world.

If the distributor is at the rear of the motor its a gm if in the front its a ford. Most I have seen are ford 233 hp. 351 with a 4bbl carb. some are the 302 4bbl carb @225hp. But thats just a guess!!!

I have a 76 SRV 240 Weekender with the 235hp OMC. It is a Ford 351. Do you know if the outdrive is a OMC or Merc?

Hi and welcome,I subscribe to Boating and Boating World magazines, they both have articles each month on everything from teak work to installing lighting. It's free and helpful. Good luck and Happy Boating:grin:
