Hello All-

I just picked up a new 2007 195 Sport with a 220 hp TKS motor in it. The boat has a standard aluminum prop on it, however I failed to get the size off of it.

While out on the Potomac river today, I noticed that with 4 adults on board and a 3/4 tank of gas, the boat would hit about 41 mph (according to my GPS) and that the motor would not turn past 4000 rpm.

I believe that this motor is good for up to 4800 rpm, so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what size prop to try out. The boat will be used for both cruising and wakeboarding, so I would like to get a stainless steep prop that will deliver a few more mph without sacrificing the holeshot.

That said, any suggestions?

Welcome aboard!

Did you "trim up"? Excuse me for asking, but how much did those 4 adults weigh all together?

Try it with just yourself. See what RPM's you can get at WOT, trimmed up.

Before you go spending money, let's figure this out a little more first.

By the way, try using the search function above. You might be surprised at the amount of info already on here that deals with your general line of questioning.

I did have the boat trimmed up pretty well while cruising. In regards to the people on board, 3 guys at 185 pounds each and one woman at 130 pounds I would guess (I hope she does not read this post) so around 685 pounds total.

I plan on heading out again next week and will get some additional info.

Is it possible to read the numbers on the prop while the boat is in the water? My last boat had an outboard that would trim all the way out of the water which made it easy to see what size prop was on the motor.

Play around with it some more. Trim up to the point where the engine just starts to cavitate, then click click back down a notch. The point right before it cavitates is your WOT Max RPM. You're correct about the 4,800 as the top end, although if you end up at 4,900, that's OK too. However, the load you had was that much. I would expect more RPM's.

You might be able to read the numbers on the prop from the swim platform - not sure - never tried. Definitely can see them if you get in the water - or maybe somebody that's "just along for a free ride" should be getting in!

You said "new" 195. Do you mean 'new to you', or brand new?
