Hoping to pick your collective brains, I have a 2007 195 Sport with 5L TKS. I am having an issue where it start, runs well at all speeds for awhile but after about 15-19 miles (two different occasions) of cruising it will start missing badly and I have to pull it off plane and it will idle along for a short while then stall and not want to restart. Both times I opened the hatch drifted along awhile with the bimini top set to sail-mode as the wind was favorable and alerted a neighbor I might need a tow (only a mile or so from home each time). Tried starting it a few times with no luck then remembered I had some ether in the boat and a squirt or two got her going and I fast idled it into the boat house.
The boat wasn't run much last year (only used about 1/2 tank of fuel), so I figured the issue was the fuel water separator filter (it is stored very full of ethanol fuel with marine stabil), replaced the separator tried again and basically the same thing happened shutdown at approx 19 miles of cruise speeds and then limped home. Next day I needed to put it back on the trailer and had no issue driving it at speed to the launch ramp a couple miles away. I replaced the fuel water filter again only this time I poured the contents into a glass jar to look for water - and there was none.
I am not ruling out a heat related ignition issue but it is WAY down on my radar, I don't think it is the fuel filter or it would never run at WOT cleanly and get progressively worse, I am thinking there is something stopping fuel flow that gets washed back out after sloshing around a bit (perhaps in the tank there is a macro filter that is loading up with mung). Ideas would be greatly appreciated.
