This was kind of touched on in another thread but didn't want to hijack the original question. I bought a 19 inch LED TV to use in our boat. I was looking at the power supply on it which plugs into a wall outlet (120v ac) then runs to a small box which converts it to 12vDC/3A, then to a 2.5mm connector to connect to the back of the TV. It seems possible to be able to cut the cable and wire it strictly for 12v. Has anyone tried this or any advice?

I have done it many times, but I only use one brand of TV when I do it. I have ran the Insignia TV's up over 28 volts, and down to 10 volts with no problems at all.

If the set truly runs on 12v it should work. My Sharp is 12v and is hard wired to a 12v breaker on the DC circuit. Make sure it is fused properly per the owner manual.

Thanks for the advice, I got the Insignia at Best Buy then got to looking at it the the wheels started to turn since it was actually a 12 volt TV running on 120vAC.

There is a small panel on the lower part of the radar arch that is used to access the bolts to secure the arch on. I was going to put a 12vDC power source there as well as a F connector there to put the TV in the cockpit if we wanted to. I really didn't want to have to run the generator to watch TV. I didn't want to attempt adding an additional 120v power source or have an extension cord and coax running everywhere.

I will take pictures of the install since I have to install the antenna, amplifier, 12v wiring, coax and getting it all mounted up. Thanks again!

you will not regret going the 12v route. Great for watching a ball game or movie on the hook without having to run the genny.
