I had to replace the horn on my 2007 - 185 sport twice last year. The horn diaphragm, which is mounted on the bow, is apparently part paper and is ruined after it gets too wet. At $80 to $100 each for the replacement from me Searay dealer, I can't afford to continue replacing it each time I take a good splash on the bow. Does anyone else have this problem? Know of a waterproof replacement part? Thanks

It's a common problem. Mine hasn't worked in 6 months. I know Overtons has a good stainless one, but it doesn't fit the factory hole. I am going to grab a loud automotive one and just secure it to the old horn so it's tucked away from the spray. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I will look at the cheaper replacement part if I'm gong to keep replacing it. I could just use the hand held, but it bugs me that I have to do that when there is a horn installed. Seems like a pretty big design flaw to me.

FYI, the "Sea Ray" horn costs $24 at a dealer.

This type of horn is notorious for not lasting too long, but "typically" they last at least a few years. I'm not sure what's going on if yours is being replaced that fast... unless... IIRC, there's supposed to be some type of waterproof membrane underneath the cover. I have read that some people add a layer of weedblock fabric to help (or to replace a ripped membrane).
