and in 7.4 seconds we were well over 40 mph. We topped out at 51 mph doing 4600 rpm

No one seems to have tested the 185 sport with the mpi....

numbers for the 185 190hp range from 47.5 to 51mph

Numbers for the 195 220hp mpi range from 51.3 to 51.6 with good load (51.3 with 3 people in 1 foot chop surprised me)

Can we assume that 185 sport mpi can knock out 53-54mph with 1 person and mirror like conditions turning at 5000rpm trimmed out? Planning time of under 3 seconds and 0-30mph in 6 seconds?

I've had my 2005 185 Sport with 4.3MPI up to 58mph (on GPS) with the 19" Vengeance that came on the boat. Conditions had to be just right to get going that fast, but it was repeatable. I can't get her that fast anymore because I'm now running a highfive prop and have added weight (tower, extra batteries, etc).

FYI, 5000rpm is above the upper limit on a 4.3. I believe the range is 4400-4800.

58mph with a 19" seems very optimistic. what gearset are you running?

5000rpm is perfectly safe. The rev limiter kicks on past 5000rpm.

Don't know what gears are in it. I wouldn't have believed it on the speedo (as they are known to be very optimistic), but the GPS doesn't lie.

51, 53, 54, 58......... Who cares, that's fast enough for a 185.
