175 Alarm Question ????

Would a 1997 175 have any sort of start up alarm? I've never heard one on my boat but when i had the drive oil out of it and the resiviour empty i put the key to the on position and it didn't sound any sort of alarm, whats the point of the float switch in the drive oil tank if i'm not getting an alarm or is my alarm broken?

I have the exact same boat as well and never heard any alarms although I admit i have not had it long.

I also have the same year and model and haven't seen or heard any alarms of any kind. I haven't seen it in any docs either...sorry.

Good news then for me it doesn't sound like anything is in need of fixing then =)

The alarm on the 3.0L is "optional", and most Ive seen don't have it. You can tell by either looking for the buzzer under the helm, or by looking on your thermostat housing if the second brown (brown and maybe light blue?) wire is connected, or if there is a plug in the second thermostat port. If there is just a plug, then there is no overheat switch and no alarm.

My 1996 4.3 has a alarm when the ing is to the on position low oil heat and pressure I think
