:huh:HI Can anyone tell me what takes place on this first service. I have been keeping the rpm down most of the time and not running WOT. I am hoping that after the first service that she will feel quicker? any comments? Its hard to tell when i try not to open her up but with a short burst she is only just over the 4,000 rpm, and i believe she will go to 4,800?? mine is the 135.
Thanks

Check the paperwork that came with your boat (or check online at mercury marine). The maintainance manual should be there. I think that the main thing at the 20 hr. mark is oil change.

If you are close to 20 hrs., I would push her to WOT for a good little bit (1-2 mins). You need to make sure she sees real-life RPM's. I am not a huge fan of babying an engine too much.

I just did the same thing a few months back. The manual lists all this in the maintenance section.
The main thing is to change the engine oil/filter, change the gear lube in the leg, and basically check all connections, loose bolts, etc.
As for break in, for some strange reason I followed Merc's recommendation. This is also in the manual (which I don't have with me). But if I remember correctly, after 10 hours, it says you can operate at WOT for short bursts. After 20hrs, it's basically drive it.
For me, I varied the rpm's all over and pulled a tube around to make the engine work. I didn't do any WOT for the first 10 hours. I'm still going to take it easy since I only managed to get 15 hours before winter arrived. Now we're waiting for winter to go away.

Thanks guys,
I will let you know how she goes after service.
Should post picture of the boat, so standby
Cheers
