Hey - I just replaced my hot water heater and want to move the fresh water pump and need to replace the nipples on the hot water heater (old ones were corroded onto the heater). In order to do this, I need to match the current fittings/tubing used on the boat. The one quick connect says 15mm - but I couldnt find anything at the hardware store to match. Is this the correct stuff that will match? http://www.downwindmarine.com/Quick-Connect-Plumbing-Whale-p-1-c-6236.html

Where would you guys go to get some elbows, 15' of each color, and the nipples? Their prices look pretty good.

Take lots of pics of what you do. I'm planning on replacing my cockpit faucet (again, to one that has a larger gooseneck) and add hot water. I'm curious to find the proper fittings as well.

No, Whale fittings don't work when connecting to the brass fittings on the water tank. Search for John Guest 15mm fittings. That's what Sea Ray uses for original equipment. I just replaced my Hot Water tank, so I know Whale do not work, I have a few I bought from West Marine that leaked like crazy. Sea Tech makes a 15mm fitting that works.

Did a couple of threads on this sort of topic. Each required converting 15mm to standard plumbing.

You can find everything at seatech online. The fittings are much better quality than whale fittings. The P.O. replaced some fittings with whale fittings and the only ones that have leaked on my boat are...the whales. I have since replaced them with seatech's and have been problem free since.

Wow, good thread. I was just going to ask where to buy the plumbing supplies to add a hot and cold faucet to my cockpit counter. Gotta get them online I see. Thanx.

Whale fittings don't work with my 15MM water lines.

What would be better then; Ordering right from SeaTech or from Fresh Water Systems, or does it matter?

Edit; Just watched the "SeaTech" video and now realize why the leak is there. PO had replaced the faulty fitting with something other than a SeaTech product. That's why nobody could find the right washer. Good thread, thanx again.

and probably why mine was leaking. it fit and would not leak if it was held just right but hit a wave and i could hear the pump kick on indicating it had lost pressure and was spraying all over the place.

I've gotten my parts from freshwater systems alway fast shipping correct no hassles. I brought a lot of the John guest speed fit fittings and after two seasons they are holding up well. You have to read up on them as they have the twist collars on them and sealed is down which was counter intuitive to me at first but now makes sense. Needless to say I had to go around and check mine to make sure I did it right.

Just ordered seatech through fresh water systems. Will update on how everything fits. I also decided to go with the check valve on the water heater for the cold side. I know its not needed as the pump will keep it from back flowing, but I considered that it wont hurt to have the check valve on there and it was the same price.

Received the parts yesterday and installed last night. Everything from seatech was a 100% fit with the stock stuff. No leaks, and I was able to take my first hot shower EVER since Ive owned the boat (which I needed after being in the bilge in 95F heat....)

Ill get some pics this weekend.

mvoellinger,

Where do you keep your boat? Don't see many people on CSR from Jacksonville. I keep mine dry stored at Lakeshore on the Ortega River.

I was able to order the "Seatech" fitting that I needed to do my repair right from the Sea Ray dealer. It was only one dollar CDN higher in price than the US price from "Fresh Water Systems" and I didn't have to pay shipping. Might just order the parts to do the cockpit sink from the same place. They said they order them from the "Westernmarine.com" site. (Not West Marine like I thought :smt021, dumbcoff:smt021.) Only reason I hesitated ordering right from "Fresh Water Systems" is that the shipping costs, IMO, were astronomical.
