I have a real stupid question but who buys these 80 to 120 foot boats? look at how many there are on yachtworld and boat trader (as well as others) and tell me how there can be so many when there are so few who can afford them.

Athletes, rock stars, ceos of software companies, trust fund babies, entrepreneurs, they all can afford to buy big boats. 80 to 100 feet is nothing for lots of these folks.

Corporate ownerships and LLCs generally not individuals. But you too can go LLC. Pretty common today.

I might need a bow thruster on one of those.....

We anchored near this a couple years ago. Eclipse. We were on the Silver Muse. Plenty of big boats (really ships) in the St Barths harbor that day.

Nothing really new. Millionaires have always being buying big Yachts. Malcolm Forbes had Highlander, Lesley Wexner had the Limitless and so on. The only real change is there are more millionaires and Billionaires that there were 30 years ago. I took a photo of Lesley Wexners yacht limitless in 2001. It is also true that usually these are owned by the corporation and chartered or used for business meetings when the CEO isn't using them. This give them a huge tax write off.

I have an acquaintance who has a 95' yacht that he had built in 2017. It's amazing but he absolutely hates it. They live aboard and travel the world but he hates that he has to have a captain and a mate on the boat. He said when he had an 85' yacht he ran it himself.

Travis is a very humble guy who did well in electronics.

BTW did I mention that the 100 footers are only the baby ones to these people. The Limitless was at the time the largest private yacht in the world (not any more) at 316 feet. The Coast Guard ships I served on were 327 feet to provide a comparison. The largest on now is the REV, 597 feet owned by someone in Norway.

We are usually one of the smaller boats in the harbors we frequent.
