10 Best weekend within a days run from Deltaville, VA

Just moved our boat from Ft. Lauderdale to the Deltaville area. The Admiral loves the boat but wants to go somewhere each time rather than enjoy the marina.

Suggestions about where to go, great anchorages for a quite weekend preferably where one can get out of the boat on to a sandy beach area. Other suggestions within about an 75-100 run would be greatly appreciated.

Presently plan to attend the BIH08 in June and take the week off following to work our way back South to Deltaville by way of St. Michaels, Annapolis and other recommended stops.

Your suggestions and recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

You are in a great central spot and a book could be written. I have found the best publication for the Chesapeake is by William Shellenberger called "Cruising the Chesapeake: A Gunkholer's Guide". It's available at Amazon here:

It has great destination suggestions as well as great anchorage information.

You could always hop across the river to the Tides Inn, spend what you save on gas on the slip and dining. Lots to do within bicycle distance, the wine shop in Whitestone serves very nice meals or you can picnic at Christ Church. Or you can anchor in Carters Creek.

Unfortunately any oysters you eat in Middlesex County (Urbanna, Deltavile, etc) are probably not local. The past 2-3 Oyster Festivals have shipped Oysters in from New Orleans.
