Can anyone tell me how to get at the 4 speakers in the cockpit?

They are in the "fabric" and for the life of me...I cannot see how to pop off the cover...In the past I'd just get a screwdriver and wail away....but I don't want to mess up a new boat.

The factory speakers sound like CRAP...

BTW...anyone know what size they are?

Isn't that sad...I don't...yet.

We had so much crap...er...gear to switch from our traded boat, we spent most of our day figuring out what to toss and what to transfer... The speakers are on the radar arch and below on the sides...

I'll get some, but was hoping someone with the same model might have switched thiers out.

Thanks!

OK...Well I guess I'll answer my own thread..I had a stereo guy go and look at it. Appears the speakers are not enclosed..(open to the radar arch) and some of the sound is going right up the inside of the arch. Also they are entry level Panasonic speakers...
He is going to install enclosures and put in MB Quart replacements...I'll let you know how it sounds..He claims 100% better after he is finished.

Well it was great post anyway, but I didni't enclose my Arch speakers, I just installed kicker 250 watt marine speakers, needless to say that ound great, it's all in the speaker and the power you push through them....clarity is quality....

All your answers lie here...

Not really, but there is a pic and tells you how to get to your cockpit speakers.

Grab the edges of the fabric covering the speakers and pull, it is held in by "Plastic Velcro" They Vynal surround is held in by plastic screws, that you just have to pull out, but work gently and at the point where they are attached to the fiberglass so as not to break anything.

I will be installing my speakers this weekend, and I will post pictures. Speakers will be the easy part, running the AMP power and finding the right mounting spots for them will be hard

Should have given the update...

Had the tech do the Dynamat thing...and replace the 4 cockpit speakers with MB Quart NSE 216 marine speakers.

Much better...however I still find myself wanting a bit more bass. I think once my other wish list items are bought...(GPS and a smartcraft display)..I'll be adding a sub..somewhere....

Thanks and please give me an update on your project.

I hadn't thought about enclosing my MB Quarts in the arch until yesterday, and now today, I read about your plan to do that. Anyone know where I can get some pre-made enclosures? I have some wires that rattle in the arch on occassion.

MB Quart Premium Components (6.5") in arch - Eclipse XA-4000 amp
Bose Outdoor Speakers hanging from arch - Share the above amp
2 JL Audio 10" open subs inside cockpit walls - Eclipse XA-1000 amp (Huge bass)

How was the Dynamat applied? Did he just line the cavity behind the speaker?

They did line the area's up the arch with the dynamat.
He did take pictures of the install. If they will help you after X-mas I can ask him to forward some pic's to me and I can post them for you.

Oh man...Is it spring yet?

I've got a '92 Sea Ray 270. No radar arch. Interested in getting more sound when cruising. Anyone have luck with small speakers on the dash? I'm hesitant because I don't want to interfere with the visual obstruction. Plus, I'll admit it, if I do this...I plan to upgrade the stereo system and likely have it done by a tech. There's no outside mounting hardware for the stereo system in the electrical panel (meaning that will have to come off too). Anyone been down this road before?
