I have 6.2L Mercruiser motors set up with bravo 3's. The starboard engine will not shift into reverse. It will operate the throttle normally but not engage the outdrive. At first, it would take about 1000-1500 RPM to engage reverse on the way back with the throttle and now nothing? Could this be a cable or throttle position sensor problem? Ideas?

More than likely the cone clutch but I would replace the lower shift cable first or verify that it's shifting fully in that direction

This is exactly what our pre Alpha and the port drive on our Alpha 1 Gen2 was doing. The lower shift cable fixed it. The pre Alpha had the cable routed to where it was rubbing on the moving parts at the back of the motor. Chewed the sheathing up and the cable would push through the holes in the sheathing.

I know it's extremely hard, but google the routing and follow it, if this is the case. I had to pay my son to squeeze his skinny butt down in to route the cable. I also got some extra rub sleeve for the sheathing as it needs more than just that 6" piece that comes with the new sheathing.

Edit; I just reread your post. Everything I have read with the Bravo 3's has been the cone.

Thanks for the suggestions...the issue was the cable from the helm to the shift plate on the engine. Works 4.0 now. The cable actually stretched and needed to be readjusted. There was still room on the cable for further adjustment. Makes a case for electronic throttles as this is certainly a wear item!
