“Crappy” question

We do not have a dog any longer, but have met many other cruisers who do have dogs, some more than one, and how they deal with that issue is varied. Many take their dogs ashore via dinghy, you will note in active captain anchorage listings that dog owners will post not only on how well they liked an anchorage, but also if it is pet friendly as in the nearby shores are sandy (good) or muddy (bad).
Many have a piece of what looks like astro turf that they put on their swim platform and train their dog to use that.
We also have met people who will not anchor out or use mooring balls because they just don't want to be bothered cleaning swim platforms or running their dog ashore in a dinghy in pouring rain. It's a personal thing.
We occasionally visit the Boat Galley site, as it has a lot of good stuff on there all about cruising, I found this for you, hope it helps.
