Hi ,
I have a 270slx with Merc 425 HP . I used to hit around 50mph but i'm down to around 45 nowadays with trim half up and half tank full . Yet another disappointment with this boat . It's a sheep in wolf clothing .
On another note , i've had all sort of problems with the boat recently ...
now i am facing a similar problem . Since i anti-fouled my bota i can't even get close to 50mph . The dealer's book says i should be hitting 52-56 at 5000 rpm . Nowhere near that . Very strange
Does anyone know much about anti-fouling ? every how long should it be done ?some say once every 3 years others say every 6 months
i am also told that once the boat is out of the water even for a little while it dries up and needs to be applied again .
i am really annoyed boating season just started but my engine won't .
Changed the batteries , they were drained , and still no sign of life .
Bilge , blower , lights , pump are all working just fine but the temperature/pressure gauges aren't moving neither is stereo . Any ideas ?
judging from the quality of my SLX i can easily believe it's made in china . i have 30 hours on the clock and so far both pumps , arches , stereo , fridge , seats ...(stopped counting) had to be fixed/replaced .
In such conditions i always tradeoff comfort for safety . Remember this is an open bow so if your bow is too low you may be hit by the odd big wave unprepared . In this case your bow may fill up with much more water than your bilge pump is designed for and you may tip at the front .It happened...
i don't know about you but my boat seems to be falling apart , nothing major so far but really annoying .Especially for the price i paid .
Someone told me unlike other SR the SLX are made in China . Is it true ?
You'd be surprised how much improvement you will see . I think i suggested the same on this forum a few weeks ago . Advice : once you scrape it you have to apply an anti-foul paint around once a year to keep the barnacles away ,
welcome . I also recently traded in my 240 SD but for a 270 SLX . Big mistake . I am still wondering why i paid so much more money for an inferior boat...maybe for of the looks ?
Re: 270 Select EX Thread
I'm so jealous . Our fridge doesn't cool at all . The little freezer does a little bit . Something isn't right . It doesn't help that we often exceed 110 here .
While cruising do you always run both batteries ?
Re: 270 Select EX Thread
I'm down the road in Abu Dhabi . We have around 200 natural islands .
Dubai : the world , the universe , Jumeirah palm island , jebel ali palm island and deira palm island...only Jumeirah palm is actualy finished and habitable we can't get too close with boats though
thanks for the tips everyone . I'll give the waxing a shot. I always clean the boat after every outing but i don't dry it (never had to do that with my previous boats) .
Skip : you're dead on about salinity in the Gulf .Around here we say it's not salty water rather it's watery salt.
Re: 270 Select EX Thread

Re: 270 Select EX Thread
unfortunately i don't have any interesting photos handy .
i live half way around the globe from you .
I can send you some photos but it'll be a while , our summers are very harsh here , 80 to 90% humidity and 110 to 120F so we don't winterize , we'"summerize" our...
All stainless steel parts on my boat are rusting . The boat is less than 4 months old . How can that be ?
Isn't stainless steel supposed to be "stain less" ?
