It is by speedometer, which I realise may be generous, but it is all I have to go by for now. Will have GPS in a couple weeks and see how it compares.
It is really sensitive to the trim tabs - makes a 3-4 mph difference by how they are set.
I am jealaous as our used 230 BR did not come with the aft filler cushion which was standard with the boat, but the previous owner misplaced it. As I understand, the aft cushion was standard while the bow fillers were optional.
mdutton, I am surprised you get only 42. I get 52 to 53 top end with a 5.7 BIII. Sometimes need to get the trim tabs "just so" for that, but 50 comes easy.
Has anyone used the woven straps in place of the braided steel cables on your trailer winch? I just replaced my cable and it promptly pinched itself in the reel so badly that it might break. The woven straps seem as though they would be easier to use.
Would the woven strap be strong enough...
We had an enclosure made last year and in my research I was told that an "enclosure" attaches to the standard bimini with sloping aft curtains whereas a "camper top" requires a second, rear bimini which, when open, connects to the front bimini. Then the canvas sides result in a more upright...
Welcome! We are starting our second season on a new-to-us (and like-new) 2001 230 BR. We absolutely love the boat. It is roomy with tons of storage, extremely comfortable, smooth riding, powerful, and just plain pretty!Last summer we had a full enclosure made for it and are ready to try...
Yep, it is really the same boat. I checked the Sea Ray archives and the only differences are cosmetic interior and upholstery changes. For instance, the dash is a bit different. Also, the optional interiors were different choices than were availbable in 2001.
I have found that the trim tab...
I have been told that my 2001 230 Signature evolved into the 240 Select. The boats look about identical from the outside. Does yours have the integrated swim platform? Mine is tacked on and I think that is the primary structural and dimensional difference.
I have the 5.7 litre with Bravo...
I believe there is a rule to use your horn before overtaking another vessell (two toots if passing to port, one toot if passing to starboard - or maybe vice-versa?). Anyway, I have noticed that absolutely no one follows that rule and when I asked another boater "why?" he told me you would be...
When shopping I had seen that described somewhere online. Then when I looked at a 2000 and was checking the boat out, I lifted that seat back to peer inside. The owner said "What is that? I didn't even know that was there!". I thought, "what a dweeb!" - (no just kidding!)
I am in the process of looking for curtains for my 2001 230BR. With the help of the folks on this site, I learned I needed to look for local custom marine canvas fabricators. I now have two quotes for forward visors, side curtains, and an aft curtain and both are right around $1000 if I use...
Just came across this post and am glad to see another 230 owner. That 7.4 ought to be fast - how fast have you gotten it? My 5.7 with Bravo III will go 53. I do have the trim tabs and need to play with them to get the last 3 MPH out of it - they make a big difference.
I know the hull design...
I have been using Blue Magic plastic & plexiglass cleaner for years on headlights. It makes them look like new, but I found that after car washes I usually had to polish them again.
Recently I rubbed the dock at the boat ramp and managed to hit right on that pretty oval black Sea Ray emblem...
SeaRide,
Thanks - I have sent an email to Derek.
I have tried to update my signature pic to an actual photo of the boat, but for some reason the interior shot is the only picture I can upload. After resizing other pics (originals are all about 4MB) they look like crap!
Re: 230 BR canvas package - FOLLOW UP
As a follow up to this. I had contacted Great Lakes who said they did not make canvas for this model and had no patterns. I contacted Sea Ray who gave me the part numbers and referred me to Great Lakes. Dan at Great Lakes said again they did not have it...
I am in a world of smaller boats than y'all, but while shopping I learned you can't let the moniker sway you. We were comparing a 2001 230 with a 2002 220. I thought "one foot can't make too much difference". I don' know all the dimensions, but there is a world of difference between these...
