I have a dometic vacuflush 147 toilet where the pedal and ball seal got decoupled from each other after someone was too rough with it.
No worries, I watched some youtube videos, ordered a bunch of parts, and went to work. 4 session and 5 hours later, having changed the shaft, ball valve, spring...
Wanted to share something I've been working on & see if anyone has done something similar! I'm currently just working on getting the mechanicals sorted, but hoping to have something up and running by mid-summer.
Before I start: I know this is not to be relied upon - my only use for this is...
Thank you everyone for the excellent guidance, its much appreciated. Docking in wind gives me a lot of anxiety and the hope that I'll be able to master this skill is going to help me a lot. Based on this thread I'll experiment with a few combinations:
1. Keeping bow into wind till parallel to...
Wind on my stern as in going beyond my slip, and coming at it with the wind behind me?
Ive been attempting this, but thus-far usually end up drifting towards too far downwind & needing to put it in reverse to avoid bumping into my neighbor. How fast would you dive in?
Hey everyone! I'm trying to get better at docking my 240 in high-wind situations like mid-afternoon. It usually takes a few tries because I end up drifting towards the boat on my right, needing to abort with reverse throttle before trying again.
How would you line-up / approach this situation...
Mostly I wasnt sure what would be behind them. Can i expect wood typically for any hard panel, that clearly doesnt follow the curve of the hull?
Will try this as well, thanks!
Sorry if this is a silly question, I'm new.
There's a section of trim that I would like to install snaps into for mounting some (light) stuff, neatly and out of the way.
to install snaps I need to get at the back: any idea how I do that?
Finally brought her home :)
Everyone else tied the stern up to the nearest tie so i copied them. Right after I took this i when and grabbed some more rubber snubbers and put them on the stern lines.
Thank you all for the kind congratulations.
Its a floating dock with fingers on both sides. The slip is 36' by 16' (plenty of room for a boat 24' x 8'6"). It is coastal, so definitely tidal (though I believe it is shielded from direct ocean surge due to its location).
If I understand everyone...
Thanks all for the guidance! I'm with @Pirate Lady on getting a pro mechanic - maybe in a few years I will have more confidence doing some maintenance myself, but for now I think burning some money each year is a good way to go for peace of mind.
Just closed on a boat today :D and will be moving her into a marina in the next week or so (there's no 'winter' where I'm at).
This marina has finger slips and some kind of breakwater, however I've heard it can get a little nautical during a storm. As such, I want to get a good handle on the...
Im lucky in that the nearby mechanic (next door to the yard) has their own tractor + trailer, so for simple things its cheaper to haul-out that way than the big crane the yard has.
Thanks all for the information! Rest assured I intend to do proper maintenance.
I'll note that because I live in the SW of the US I don't really have a winter season - much simpler to keep the boat in the water all year round.
Combining what everyone has said so far, this is my plan:
- Yearly...
Heya,
Soon to be newbie boat-owner here.
I'm wondering if anyone has any good 'rule of thumb' suggestions for a maintenance schedule - (every X hours or Y months do Z).
What I have so far (for a boat slipped in salt-water):
- Every 15 months to a few years haul-out and do a bottom paint.
-...
