Answer to your original question is yes, engine/transmission can come out at the same time. I pulled both of my engines/trans out of my boat November 2022.

Have we ruled out a bad rectifier on the alternator, if it is outputting too high a level of AC voltage that will upset the ECU. Easy check to make. DVOM on AC volts, measure at alternator. Should be 0.2 volts or less.

Just to confirm to all on this thread, I do have oval ports, my castings are 279's. I did order two pairs of these EQ heads and should get them next week. I will try and remember to report back after they have been fitted and engines have a few hours on them, but that will not be until April...

shenanigans77, another question for you then.....did you use all Mercruiser gaskets (head, intake, rocker covers) or go with any Fel Pro?

scoflaw, you are correct, I missed that! That is a good price then. So far I am finding out that for the new heads, the castings are made in China, probably no big surprise there. Now that might not be an issue, but something to consider. My thinking is if I go with rebuilt then the castings...

Shenanigans77, thanks for your recommendation. They are out of my budget, new would be nice but I have been looking at rebuilt/reconditioned heads, they are around $500 a piece.
