Brand new 8.2L H.O. Not performing as expected

Yeah it’s crazy. I understand with boats there’s a lot going on. How you see vastly different numbers between different peoples boats with the same power package etc…but in situations like ours, same exact boat, same human operator, and new more powerful engines, with same or worse performance...

Brand new 8.2L H.O. Not performing as expected

The gear ratio of the new drive is 1.81:1, it was the suggested ratio and a very common one, the 24 pitch props I initially had were also suggested by the Sea Ray rep and agreed with by the Mercruiser rep as well. Oh, and the engine has distributorless ignition, it’s got coil packs and crank...

Distributurless ignition…coil packs on this engine, crankshaft position sensor. Engine starts and runs smoothly.

Brand new 8.2L H.O. Not performing as expected

That’s exactly what I was expecting…3-4 more on the top end and really nice performance all around. I had an ‘09 330 with twin 8.1’s bravo’s and that thing hit 50 mph. It weighed about twice as much as the 260 as well, so my outside expectations were kind of high..these results are the exact...

Brand new 8.2L H.O. Not performing as expected

Whatever the ratio of the drive, if propped correctly you should get the performance. You know it’s propped correctly if you’re getting the desired rpm range at WOT.

Brand new 8.2L H.O. Not performing as expected

I’ve got a new 8.2 HO, as well as a new Bravo III XR drive. Just hit 18hrs of break in time. Boat is a 2006 260 Sundancer. Previously had a 8.1 Mag, Bravo III. Old engine lost two cylinders due to clogged injectors. The cool fuel unit had been replaced by previous owner but never...

Resealing the hull to deck joint

Hi Captain I’m doing the hull deck joint on my Sundancer 260 right now. My main question is if 5200 is the go to sealant? After reading the thread I’m still not sure, and sea ray won’t give tech support on boats over 10 years old..mines a 2006. Thank you sir!

2008 Sea Ray 350 - Very low hours: Concerns?

Talk to Mercury and figure out if the cool fuel modules have already been replaced. If they have a record of of work done on your boat (give them your engines serial numbers) maybe they can tell you if the fuel rails and injectors have been checked and cleaned as well. On my boat, 496 mag..the...

    MV & Nantucket

I recently moved to NC. But when I was in Boston, I used to love to go to points south. Provincetown on Cape Cod was an easy 40 ish mile run. And I’ve Made the trip to MV many times..easy run. Definitely want to stay at least a night or two. Oak bluffs was a great spot there. Been to Cuttyhunk...

    Thoughts on Jasper marine engines?

I’m getting a replacement long block. 496 mag 375hp. Either a new long block from Mercury or one from Jasper. It’s for a 2006 Sundancer 260. Obviously a lot less money for the remanufactured Jasper, which is very attractive. Still kind of unsure as to which way to go. Id be interested to hear...

Cool fuel module ever leak water in to the gas?

I spoke with Jack at length today. Whatever happened, I don’t think he screwed up and I’d continue to do business with him. I’ve called him a couple times and he always picks up and talked me through the symptoms. He’s very knowledgeable. I’m tearing the engine down now. Got the heads and...

Cool fuel module ever leak water in to the gas?

I’ll look for the receipt or on my bank statement but it was a few hundred. Well worth it though considering a new unit is around $1400. BUT, you can’t even get one now.

Cool fuel module ever leak water in to the gas?

2006 260 DA, 496 mag bravo III. Serious internal engine problems. Water in oil. Low compression in two cylinders 38/75..it’s bad. Just checked the gas in the cool fuel module and both sides have water in the gas. The ‘out’ side also has a substantial amount of crap..sediment..in it...

Automotive Crank Position Sensor in 496 mag?

No, the reason I had it rebuilt was my own ham handedness. While doing the plugs/wires I moved the fuel line too much causing the line out of the module to leak. I sent it out to get fixed and the tech informed me that the unit has already been updated.

Sundancer 280 with single 496 mercruiser engine

Love to hear what you think..when I purchased it in ‘19 it would hit 4900/5000 WOT and top out 39 mph per RAYMARINE Gps. At that time it had 28 pitch merc duo props. The outdrive was a replacement, my shop told me it’s a 2.43:1..I went ahead and got a set of 4 blades from Hill Marine. Ended up...

Here’s a brain teaser..changed my CPS, then this..

Possibly..it’s got to be something..if so, then it may actually be the result of having that one battery with higher cca than specified. Be nice if that’s the reason.
