Did you check the screens that are INSIDE the pickup tubes? You cant se them just by removing the pickup tubes. You need to remove the tube and then unscrew the tube from the fitting. The screens are inside there. I had the same issues for a long time and found them by accident. I don't know if...

Removed the mechanical helm today. Now just have to wait for parts to come.

I installed a 9k unit in my 86 270 last year. don't know if that might help.

This is the till end where the cylinder ram connects to. The pin on the left is the factory power assist. The pin on the right is where the new seastar ram connects. total install time so far about 20 minutes.

This is the mechanical steering cable attached to the power assist unit. Loosen the silver nut. Remove the cotter pin and pin from the end and slide the cable out.

ya selling with an OMC is tough. Ask me how I know. But still you wont get a whole lot by parting either. I would keep it intact and lower the price till it sells. Someone will come along.
