Thank you for the clarification. It's hard to tell in pictures and even in person at times depending in lighting. I just sold an 83 and an looking at an 88, I like the lighter sand color better.
I actually don't have a boat. I'm looking to buy one. I'm just wondering if the base color (beige, bone, off white..) that the sea ray classics have is darker in the earlier years?
Thank you for the links! Yes, I've seen most of those270's but not the 280's.
I posted a wanted ad on Craigslist and have gotten two hits! One is an 88, but with twin 4cyls...... Details on the other are incoming.
I agree, shopping for the boat is half the fun. There are only two 270's for sale in VT at this time, depending on the weather I'm going to check out the other tomorrow. There are not many other 270's around, I would have to travel to the great lakes or Mass to find more choices that are worth...
There is another 270 on the northern part of the lake. Its an 85, same price, pics look good, and it has twin v8 230's. I'm going to check this one Tuesday if time permits.
I had my second viewing of the 270 yesterday thatI've had my eye on. For the most part the boat looks good. There are three possible issues, first off I think the front cleat is bleeding through into the cabin. If thats so than I'd guess the balsa core is wet/rotted as well, and to what extent...
Nice write up! Thanks tritone!
Time will tell on a survey. Id like to ask the guy thats coming up to look at the platform and transom to see if he will check out the rest of the boat. I would offer to pay the extra cost.
Thank you for the great information! I was told today that the owner was unaware that the swim platform bolt was loose. He is having it checked out by a well known marine restoration business in the area, a moisture check will be done by them as well. I'm going to go view the boat tomorrow to...
Kc, While you were rebuilding your transom did you notice if any of the screws you were removing were deterorated from constant contact with water?
I had an old water waterlogged Starcraft 20 or so years ago and a lot of the screws I removed from the floor and bilge area were like this. Some...
Sorry gentlemen, it's been a long day..! This really cracked me up when I just realized i pimped it out....
It is a 1988
Thank you for your input! Anyone ever have any issues in these areas with the drains or the mid cabin bilge areas?
I agree the hard part would already be done. I've never worked with the fiberglass process so I would think, with this being the back bone of a boat, I would want a pro who knows all the the tips and tricks to be doing it. Than I can have the motors / outdrives gone through and mounted by a pro...
KC, you mentioned on the start of this thread that there was a loose swim platform bolt on your 270 when you purchased it. Im wondering if you noticed that as being a large part of the water you had in your transom?
The reason I'm asking is because I'm currently looking at an 88' 270, one of...
More questions from the ducnut. Ok, so I'm considering a 1988 270DA. I did my first viewing last week and I felt the boat looked good from what I could tell inside the blue shrink wrap. The first thing I noticed was it having white outdrives, yikes. I asked the broker if they were merc, he said...
I'd say ballpark should be from 1500-2000.. There are a few in Michigan with a trailer so that's not outta the question either. Will a 2500hd chevy pull one of these 270's?
