Boat: 1998 290 DA with single 7.4ltr/Bravo III
Just changed the steering cable - issue still persists.
Boats steering is still difficult, but more so when turning to starboard.
Is this generally a symptom of a bad PS Pump? Or the power steering actuator? or something else?
Thank you in...
I searched and could not find where this had been addressed in the past.
I have the engine stated in the topic. Mercruiser 7.4L MPI, 1998 vintage, Bravo III outdrive - 1998 290DA.
Runs perfect, however, when above dead idle, if you pull the throttle quickly to neutral or up against the...
Anybody know if the automotive-type fuel pressure regulator is the same as the marine version on these engines?
O'Reillys Autoparts: $62 and can have boat fixed today
Mercruiser dealer: $159 and can have it in a speedy 3 days....
Well, as of last Friday, I am no longer a 268DA owner. We have sold the ole girl and moved on to a 1998 290DA.
I guess, at age 48, I need to officially retire from the “Hole In The Water Club” and join the “Sport Cruiser” section. :)
It’s been a great ride and I will miss my 268. She has...
Currently we own a 1988 268 which my family and I truly enjoy.
Looking to upgrade slightly. Would like twins and AC/Heat (main reason for upgrade), but still need trailerability due to port/lake hopping and salmon tournament fishing.
The 1993 290 appears to be close to the same boat as...
Well, between the high winds (the worst of any spring I've ever experienced), rainy cold weather, we did manage a few trips out into Lake Huron for some excellent spring time fishing. In several trips out of Harbor Beach, we have landed a total of 48 lake trout, 2 king salmon, 2 coho salmon and...
Hey all!
I found an inexpensive LED bulb from Menards to replace those 1156's used on our swivel reading lights. No more heat build up and they are very bright compared to the incandescent 1156's.
These are like $5.97 so not too pricey. Just thought I would pass this along.
Now I'm...
Ok, I'm usually a pretty good mechanic/trouble shooter, but this one has me stumped. On 3 different instances this past summer, I bring the boat up on plane and start cruising and notice the engine temp start to climb. In all 3 instances, I backed off the throttle, put the boat in reverse...
Vacationed last week in Ludington at Harborview Marina. Made it out for 3 fishing trips and the rest of the time we hung out at the dock or went tubing. Great times with the wife and kids living on the 268 for a week.
My rig. Love this ole girl!

After many years of dealing with sanding/polishing/waxing that upper red stripe on my 268DA, it still never looked good. Inevitably, it would revert back to that chalky whitish/gray crappy look after being exposed to the sun and rain. It bugged the crap out of me! Somehow water droplets would...
Hey, check this video out. This video is being made right now for the Lake Huron Salmon tournament we fish in every year out of Harbor Beach, MI. One of my crew members sent in few clips of us fishing and they used them in the teaser. Looking forward to the final video.
My boat is the...
Well, I have not posted any fishing reports and photos in a while, so I figure I'm about due.
The past couple of weeks we have fished a couple of lower Lake Huron salmon tournaments and actually did quite well. The salmon have been rather elusive, but we have caught plenty of lake trout, coho...
Well, I know its still a little early to get the boat out, however, the Saginaw Bay has been absolutely on fire for walleyes this winter.
Every trip on the ice has produced a limit of walleyes this year in pretty much all depths of water.
Last night, I landed my biggest ever at 10.25lbs, 28...
I'm replacing a starboard side exhaust manifold on my '88 454 Mercruiser engine. When I removed the bolts from the manifolds, I noticed whoever bolted this up the last time used different length bolts.
Some of the bolts were 1" long and some were 1-1/4" long. They are all 3/16-18 grade 8...
Have you folks seen this yet? I think I'll coat my whole boat with this stuff .

Took my boys and bro-in-law salmon fishing in Frankfort this weekend. Landed a few salmon and had a great time and enjoyed the boat and town.
These fish came while trolling around the harbor right in town. Did not burn much gas Friday night!
On Saturday, we stopped to do a secluded shore...
I'm planning to instal an auto pilot on my boat this winter. The main purpose is for trolling, but I'm sure it will come in handy for no wake zones and running from point to point.
Not looking for anything overly expensive.
Any suggestions?
I'm not sure my boat has hydraulic steering...
Fished a 37 boat salmon tournament out of Harbor Beach this past Saturday that was put on by Pro King trolling spoons. We ended up weighing 6 lake trout and a coho salmon for a solid 2nd place finish! My crew was my 2 young boys and my dad. We had an absolute blast and made memories for a...
Fished the port of Harbor Beach, Michigan this past Friday and Saturday. Harbor Beach is located on the southern end of Lake Huron. We entered a salmon tournament that has been held every 1st Saturday in May for the past 7-8 years. A fun event that pays very well with lots of great cash and...
Just in case you guys don't check out the Great Lakes forum, Here are a couple pics of our fishing tournament this past Saturday.
Rigged and ready.
Rare, beautiful evening in Harbor Beach, Michigan. Waiting for the tournament to start.
Catching a few king salmon.
