    kohler generator issues

Okay, allow me to add my woes to the pile. So I've been a non-boater the majority of this summer. Not my idea, its just the way it worked out. Now, my favorite time of the season is upon me, my 8 year old boy is asking to go "camping" on the river and the flipping genset is showing its hind...

280da w/ twin 4.3's... one starts, one clicks

Thanks everyone for the advice. I beat my head (and knuckles) around the inside of the compartment and I am pretty sure based upon the presentation, logic and a conversation with my mechanic (who, surprise, is unavailable until next week) that it is the slave solonoid. (Im sorry for butchering...

280da w/ twin 4.3's... one starts, one clicks

The clicking sound is very mechanical in the way it sounds. its as if you went to start your car and it just went click click click.... perhaps just louder considering the engine hatch is open and your directly facing the motors. the battery switch is set to ON and BOTH respectively. I have...

280da w/ twin 4.3's... one starts, one clicks

As of yet I have not. I have not contorted myself into that position yet! I havent even really figured out where it is located to be honest. I know about where... just not exactly if you get my drift. I checked all the battery connections I can and they are all clean and tight. I would...

280da w/ twin 4.3's... one starts, one clicks

The access to the batteries isnt especially hard... I could also just hookup a jumpbox to the battery and see if that does anything.... I have yet to spend the time to ascertain which battery runs which motor and which is the house battery. Good idea... I can hook the jump box to each battery...

280da w/ twin 4.3's... one starts, one clicks

I suppose I was foolish to write that much detail without summarizing the followup that I have already done. I tried the emergency crossover. It brought the meter up to 14ish but when I hit the start switch it still went CLICK CLICK CLICK and remained steady around 12-14. We welcomed this...

280da w/ twin 4.3's... one starts, one clicks

Hello all and thanks in advance for any help... I have a 2001 280da with twin 4.3L merc's which have begun to behave badly. I went to start the boat and go for an afternoon cruise, I started the starboard motor and everything seemed hunky dory. I started the port motor and all I heard was...

2001 280DA Starboard Multi Guage needs replacing

It has so far. I believe the seal around the gauge failed, allowed moisture into the gauge over its winter layup. The failure occurred in the Chesapeake Bay while retuning from layup! I'm contemplating purchasing replacements for the gauges over the next year and having them on hand as they...

    Kohler 5k Gen Fuel Consumption

I think we've all heard a wide variety of estimates on this one, some ridiculously low, some high. Does anyone have any personal insight with perhaps more scientific approach? I'm planning an extended trip in the near future and am attempting a realistic estimation. Thanks!

2001 280DA Starboard Multi Guage needs replacing

Hey guys, I dont know if you will remember this or not, but I had the exact same issue (only my gauge went out with a billows of smoke at sea) just a few months ago. I purchased a darn near exact replacement gauge from my sea ray dealer. I contacted them, they did all the research and sent me...

    vhf woes

While taking a recent run to out on the bay I realized that I was no longer hearing traffic on my VHF radio. I checked the digital display and it appeared off even though the switch was in the on position. So, I did what every red blooded American male would do. I hit it. The radio began...

Stbd Engine Multi Gauge -2000 280 DA

Its spring time here In Virginia, and like many I spent Saturday bringing my boat back from dry storage approximately 2 hours away. Approximately 20 minutes after leaving the dock, when I was smack dab in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay, I noticed my starboard engine multi-gauge (engine temp...
