Its spring time here In Virginia, and like many I spent Saturday bringing my boat back from dry storage approximately 2 hours away. Approximately 20 minutes after leaving the dock, when I was smack dab in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay, I noticed my starboard engine multi-gauge (engine temp, oil press, drive angle, and amperage) was experiencing wild fluctuations. I knew it had to be faulty; engine temp was literally bouncing between 100 and 220, drive angle indicated "up" position (though we were planning comfortably at 3400rpm) among other abnormalities.

With this in mind I continued to keep a close eye on things, attempted different engine speeds (as if this would help) and made my way towards the nearest port so I could check grounds, ect. Just after getting off the radio with the Harbormaster, I observed the most frightening of sights... smoke flowing steadily out from behind the offending gauge. Well needless to say, I as in the midst of a No Wake Zone, and the Coast Guard were exercising adjacent to where I was headed. Needless to say, its amazing how fast you can remove a multi-gauge from instrument panel.

All the wiring behind the instrument was fine, but the gauge is most decidedly toast... it would be a funny play on words if it wasn't so stressful.

Long post to ask the question: Has this happened to anyone else? If so, what was the cause?

Oh, Where does one find replacement Sea Ray Gauges? Google hasn't been very helpful as of yet.

Thanks!
Dave

Don't know if they are the same as what you need but e-bay has some listed... Try to find out who mfg. the guages, possibly you can buy them direct.

You can try eBay or better yet try fpmarine dot com - he stocks a lot of used Sea Ray gauges. I got my Sea Ray 4-way guages from him when I needed Smartcraft versions. Great price and they are like new. Be sure to tell him which side you need - if yours are like mine, each sides gauge are a mirror image of each other.
