    gallons per hour

Whether it's gallons per hour or miles per gallon, boats going over idle speed take fuel to make it happen. You are pushing a lot of weight and unlike a car, boats don't ever "coast". They just keep using fuel to keep them moving. How fast you go, how much the wind is blowing, the number of...

    3 batteries

On our 280, there are 3 batteries along with 2 battery switches. *SWITCH 1* , with the settings 1 - BOTH - 2 is for the PORT engine along with all of the gauges and the "house" power. In the engine room there are 2 batteries setting side by side that are controlled by this switch...

    Best Way To Store Isenglas

Laying flat (under the guest room beds), with towels in between seems to work well. They are relatively out of the way and it keeps the creases from showing up. I make sure they are clean before I store them so everything is ready to go when it's time to button up for the colder days.

Alarms beeps twise every 2 minutes

Idle Air Control valve. It's not just boats, cars have them too. Come to think of it, I've never had a problem with an IAC on an auto. Maybe it's the marine environment that's hard on them or just the fact that most boat motors work much harder than auto engines do. I do know it is more...

Where to sit on a 280....

It's nice to know we aren't the only ones with thoughts of a different layout. Maybe it's just good marketing by Searay. After all, they are in the business of selling boats. You like a certain boat, but look at the one just a little bigger. More seats, better access to the engines...

Where to sit on a 280....

Let me start off by saying the 280DA is a great boat. This isn't a dig in any way against the 280, but.... has anyone come up with any ideas on how to improve the seating for the co-pilot? The flip up bolster captain's chair is fine and is workable in most any situation. The seating for the...

'03 with water in the bildge

Re: Update on the water First, he is a broker and if he has a financial interest in your closing the deal. Take what he says with that in mind. If the owner made the basic "mistake" and tied the boat up too tight to allow for the tide, it makes me wonder what other "basic" things he might...

Is there such a thing as using your boat too much?

You bought the boat to enjoy and it appears you are! Use it, take care of it, and don't think about the next guy until that time comes.

'03 with water in the bildge

Our 280DA has twin 4.3's, gen set, + other stuff so it sets low in the water like all 280's similarly configured. As far as our boat, if there is water in the bilge, something is leaking.... like a hose clamp on a motor (which has happened). We just hit the 400 hour mark and this still holds...

    Engine cuts out in neutral

I think the name you are looking for is a "shift anticipation" switch. I had a broken connection on one if these that took forever to find. The Marinemax tech that finally found it ran a "jiggle" test (at least that's what he called it) with a test computer connected. The test showed a code...

    Swinging in the wind

Thanks for the info. I especially liked the photos. At least I now know I'm not the only one who is dealing with this. I was thinking about switching to an all chain rode, but yesterday I watched a 36' something with all chain doing the same thing I was. Your post confirmed it's not just a...

    Official 280 Sundancer Thread

Both of ours went out within 2 weeks of each other in the spring of 2008. So far, so good and no more problems. They were covered under warranty so I let the Marinemax tech's replace them but it looks like an easy project. Both tech's commented there are "good" IAC's and "bad" IAC's. It was...

'03 with water in the bildge

Unless you have experienced quite a lot of rain which would cause the bilge pump to run most of the time, not being connected to shore power for two weeks should not be a problem. That is unless the batteries are close to the end of their life. On our 2002 Sundancer 280DA, the bilge pumps are...

    Swinging in the wind

We're in a fresh water lake and spend many hours at anchor enjoying life. One problem I seem to have more than others is how our boat swings while the hook is down. The anchor stays put and we don't drift, but we do seem to move around more than other boats nearby. I've tried shorting the...

I've attached a couple of photos of our boat for comparison. The fuel and water tanks are about 3/4 full and the holding tank is 1/4 full. Normal "stuff" is scattered about the boat, but nothing major is on board. I also included a photo of the gen exhaust port. As low as it looks like you...

    Glomex magic

Based on the positive comments, I re-installed the amp this morning. It does indeed help. When observing the converter box signal strength meter while increasing the the amp gain, the signal definitely does get stronger and the picture is less subject to fade on the weaker channels. Thanks...

    Glomex magic

Currently I have the coax from the antenna connected directly to the input of the converter box without the amp in the circuit. After reading the responses, I'll place the amp back in the ckt tomorrow and see how things change.
