First time to winterize the 240 5.7L 4 barrel alpha 1 Gen II...planning the process for next weekend and curious how the evolution unfolds when you're trying to suck the antifreeze thru the outdrive while at the same time pouring the fogging solution down the carb. My first-shot timeline...
   on Port Kinsale/the Moorings!
Went over to Coles Pt for dinner and pulled in to a dark cove...looks like they're closed on tuesdays...got them on 16 and they were kind enuf to recommend the Moorings. Thought about the dark RTB and decided to make a trek...
You can scratch Point Lookout Marina from the fuel roster...cruised by today and there's a line of Police Tape around the fuel dock. Don't know if that mean some of the boys working in Waste Management from New York came down for 'some business' or their pumps are T.U.
Hailed them on 16...
Comsnark-
Fully sympathize with the pains you're feeling...I've been thru it and the single-malt consumption spiked a bit...
Long of the short here is that 'brand new pump' (merc product) put on my boat just prior to my overheat condition was not doing its job. Clear hose and a psi guage...
Just getting out to the other side of the Lower P around the corner from Coles pt and noticed there weren't any Jellys...whats up with that? :smt017 Does the wind keep them blown over to the north eastern shore?
Made a (anti) jelly cage for the kids to swim in. Saw the "Nettle Net" and...
Just got some petrol from Coles Plantation (pt). $3.05/gal + .17 rebate :smt038 Cheapest fill up to date! Restaurant having its share of cooks...even the menu says it can take a while :smt017 but the oyster po boy and overlooking the small dock area make it a worthy stop.
A few weeks...
Went thru a bit of troubleshooting on my boat for same reason...while I was hoping that it was the temp alarm switch...turned out to be a poorly installed pump in the outdrive.
I removed both the temp sender and the alarm switch and dropped them in a pot of hot water. Check for switch...
one more time....
Low flow/pressure problem solved with another pump. Put her in the water yesterday and double the PSI than with the previous pump. Temp guage pinned at approx 175 (temp needle bisected by right side of 170 deg tick mark). Up to WOT and barely moves...
So I drop the boat off this am to have the 'new gasket' installed....problem is that I boogied from work early to pick up the boat and they hadn't even started it yet. Good news is that the guy working it is an old A-7 driver and won't b-sht a fellow tailhooker....there's no such thing as a...
Man- if I ever get a divorce, I want Comsnark to be my attorney! Thanks for the candid advice. Didn't even think about the resale impact on a thru-hull sea water pump...one of the reasons I tossed it out there!
I'm with you on the 'goofed up the pump' part. I'm taking it in next week for...
Tom-
I thought mine was 'out of rig' as the conditions you describe are very similar to my Quicksilver throttle. I have about 2 to 3" of handle movement from in-gear idle to an increase in RPM. Not quite the 1/2 throttle range as you described, but enough to make me :smt017
I'll be...
Jack & Coke...mmmm...now I'm thirsty.
I am leaning towards having an entirely new pump installed along w/ the new gasket. Should this prove insufficient, then I'll be spending more time with the Jack and Coke than with my kids on the boat. I will have to have some very convincing evidence...
My mechs contacted mercury on this one...it appears that over the past 3 years they have experienced 4 cases of overheating after a brand new impeller/housing install. On 2 of them, their only resolution was installing a separate sea water pump to feed the system...or replacing the lower unit...
Thanks a ton, John. Taking the time to share your expertise is greatly appreciated and reminds all of us to 'pay it forward'.
Gave the mechs a data dump and they're getting together later am to propose solution. I think it is safe to say PSI is low (guage installed approx 1 foot from fitting...
Signature shows up under preview...but for some reason isn't making the post.

Appreciate the comments- picked her up today and they installed a clear hose w/ a pressure guage in the RWC inlet hose. Don't know if they forgot (or kept for barter so I'd be sure to return clear hose/pressure guage  ) to reinstall my plastic flame arrestor cover. So out she goes for a...
Well- the glory of the new boat got a bit tarnished last week when I was enroute to hauling her out for a weekend in the driveway to buff/polish, install a bilge fume detector, (re) paint the outdrive, and put in a mercathode system.
Recall I took her after a couple week's ownership to have...
Anybody have a quick link to supplier for a 12v cabin LED? One of the boats I looked at b/f buying mine had all the bulbs swapped out (cabin/cockpit/anchor) for LEDs and would like to do same. Would make a bunch of 'net surfin easier if somebody has done it and remembers the site/PN's. Thanks!
Here's their quote on diesel-
"Most marinas in Virginia sell diesel fuel that is dyed. Dyed diesel fuel is not subject to the Virginia Fuels tax and therefore, is not eligible for a refund."
