Exactly. The beauty of AGM batteries, besides being the best choice, is that they have essentially the same charging characteristics as conventional wet cells. IMO they are the only way to fly.
Here in Southern California I found that the stock Isenglass lasted at most one season, and by two seasons it was badly discolored. I ditched the forward Isenglass on Bounty for Barrett Enclosure, and the rear panel is Strataglass. I have snap-on canvas covers for them when Bounty is docked...
I have a 340 DA year 2000 with Vee drives and a brand new 5KW Westerbeke genset. No A/C (this is Southern California) so cannot help you there.
The main thing about the genset is changing the pencil zinc. I change mine about every 60 or 90 days. Usually before it really needs it.
Here...
Absolutely right. The Sea Ray canvas is really the lowest common denominator. A good canvas guy can really enhance your boat with a better canvas design and better materials. Isinglass is crud. Strataglass or Barrett Enclosure, depending on the application, is far superior.
I admit that that never occurred to me, about the heat being that bad. There is not one day a year that it is like that in Southern California.
Nevertheless, I am not convinced that most Sea Rays, other than the very large ones, are designed for the generator to be running while the...
What on EARTH is the point of having a generator running when a Sea Ray under 40 feet is under weigh? No one belongs down below when the boat is on plane. We only use our genny when moored or anchored, or when on a 5 knot harbor cruise.
I agree. I have precisely the same boat and engines and it cruises at or around 27 knots at 3800-4000 RPMs. Be sure that you are using a GPS to measure speed, on a calm sea.
I am not all that familiar with your engines, but as the previous poster inquired, it would be helpful to know your WOT rating and actual.
Any chance that loading some weight in the bow would be helpful? How about 100 feet or so of anchor chain for the bow anchor locker?
My boat (2000 340 DA) has 7.4L MPI Mercruisers in a vee drive configuration. She has the closed cooling system and the new-style muffler system. What is the difference between this and the "Horizon" version of the 7.4, if any?
Bounty is a 2000 340 DA. I would like opinions as far as the use of trim tabs is concerned. Bounty does not have trim tab meters, and typically I use the tabs to level the tilt of the vessel, but not to get on plane or even push the bow down much. I would appreciate any tips as to the proper...
We recently installed the Villiage Marine STW-400 (400 GPD). It has been really great. Very reliable so far, and having essentially all the fresh water you want really makes boating more pleasant.
