Official 390 E.C. Thread

When I replaced my FW tank years ago, I extended the fridge condensate line to the shower pump. It was previously just draining onto the floor. As for your water intrusion, I'm stumped as well. You seem to have covered off most of the possible leak sources. The only other possibility that I can think of is the anchor rode locker behind the mirror in the fwd stateroom. I know that this area has a drain to the outside, but perhaps a more complete inspection of this area will eliminate the possibility of a leak source from there.

I'll check that later today and let you know what I find.

everything that leaks ends up there. bow rails windows windshield it finds it way there. I did mine in the winter and it was shrink wrapped and I was still getting water I realized the compartments forward foam was still wet and it would drain to the back.
thers few threads on this on facebook sea ray classics and other classics

I appreciate the reply. I know the foam from the forward compartment is still slightly wet and I have something there to absorb the trickle of water coming from it(thats why i left the access holes so i could continue drying it) but this is a much greater volume of water and it had stopped for over 2 weeks. Also, the foam in the forward compartment and the foam I removed were saturated in old water/antifreeze mix that was slightly brown and stunk real real bad. This latest water intrusion is clear and has no smell which leads me to believe it was from another source. My plan is to keep a log and document as many things as possible when it happens so that I eventually figure it out but I was hoping for someone here may have an idea I didnt think of. I also plan on putting a small vane pump with a tube laying in the bottom of the v to suck the water out until I find the issue.

Great documentation on our work I have not replaced my water tank yet....so far so good, I know I will have to do it at some point. I have dealt with some of the water issues you are describing. Have you cut any access holes in the engine compartment? I have one behind the battery box and behind the generator, when I cut them I had about 5 gals of water ....this could be where the water is coming from.

Interesting, was there foam in the areas behind the batteries and generator or just water? What did you do after you drained the water? Did you leave the holes open or close them up and how. I dont think thats where this water is coming from but I will check it. My reasoning's for not thinking that is the source are: Those areas would be "storage" not producers of new water. I have had two types of water, stinky decayed antifreeze water(old) and clear water(presumably new). The water from 2 nights ago was clear with no smell(presumably new). Tonight I had some residual water(about a 1 1/2" wide strip in the bottom of the v) that was stinky(makes sense, the water from the other night would have invaded the front bulkhead area that still has foam and slowly drained out today and brought some of its stink with it. Also, the way the boat is sitting now the water that I found tonight started at the front bulkhead and didnt make it all the way to the rear bulkhead(640# of water in the new tank is making the boat sit more nose down) so at least this didnt come from the rear. I appreciate the info and will check these areas out. On a side note I think what you suggested does explain one mystery from a couple of weeks ago. When I pulled the boat to seal the leaky transducer they had me nose down in the sling and when the boat was returned to the water I had quite a bit of stinky water in the v. I'd bet it came from were your claiming its trapped. Any pics you could post of where you put these access holes would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

There is foam in this area also, I cut round 4" holes and used watertight access covers, I keep the covers on when using the boat, sometimes I leave them off for easy inspection and to let the area breathe. Is your boat in the water? A couple years ago after having the bottom blasted and installing barrier coat I had a leak at one of the struts the water showed up under the floor....thank god for the access holes. Some water will show up at times through out the summer...less than a sponge full.

Yes, my boat is in the water and has been through all of this trouble. Thats the number one reason I have pretty much ruled out hull issues since I have periods of up to 2 weeks with no water. If you get a chance I'd like to see pics where you put these access holes before I go opening things up. Thanks.

if you are on facebook please post these pics on our 390 owners group.

i know this has been brought up before "Refrigerator" the one on my boat is going out. What has been found to be the best refrigerator to replace it with. Also where to get best price? It is the 6.2 Cf

Im having issues installing a 4g dome on my 390ec. The radar has a 12 1/2 deg upward and downward beam angle off centerline of the dome. The instructions and advice from simrad and others is to mount the dome high enough that the nose of the boat is not hit by the beam. Since the nose is approximately 34 feet forward of the radar arch it ends up having to be mounted around 36 inches above the arch. That seems ridiculously high to me. I know someone has had to have mounted one of these on a big cruiser and not stuck it on top of a sailboat mast to get it high enough. What simrad tells me is that if I dont mount it high enough the radar will see the bow of my boat and will show it as a permanent target on the screen. Someone has to have real world experience with this. If you do how high did you mount yours. How bad is the permanent target on the screen. What if any problems does it cause. Any help would be appreciated.

One at a time my electronics are giving out on me, first the pump on the autopilot pump, the radar dome and now the gps antenna, I was wondering if anyone has an antenna that they'd be willing to part with? I'd attach a picture but I'm over my quota on this site and don't see how to free up space. I did find a picture of a non working antenna on ebay tho. Thanks

Hello everyone,

I have a friend who owns a 1986 possible 1987 390 EC, he need's my help with wiring on the boat so I am looking for the wiring diagrams for the boat. Even if it is not the correct year it will allow me to understand the main wiring on the 120 side and the DC side. I have searched this site and the internet with No Luck.

Does anyone know or have the wiring diagrams for the 390 EC in this year range even up to 1989.

Thanks RFK

Have a major problem. I am down on the boat and was cleaning the engine room, i noticed my port raw water intake is leaking at the base of it. Does anyone know what parts are used for these? I looked at intake thru hulls however mine has a flange on the inside of the boat that the nut runs tight on. Any idea what this is for? Thanks.
